WICHITA, KAN. — MATTHEWS – Bruce Erik, 42, Wichita, Kan., a NetApp software engineer, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012. Bruce was his wife’s best friend, his children’s hero, was loved by all and inspired all who knew him. Devotion to God, people, adventure, fun and the Pittsburgh Steelers defined Bruce. Preceded in death by mother, Joan Walls. Survived by wife, Laura Matthews; and children, Gavin and Graci Matthews, all at home; father and stepmother, Howard and Karen Matthews, Davidsville; brothers, Steve Matthews (Jane), Johnstown; and Doug Matthews (Laurie), Navarre, Fla.; and grandmother, Buelah Walls, Johnstown. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West, Wichita. A private family interment will be followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Central Community Church, Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Bruce Matthews Memorial Fund, c/o Emprise Bank, 8807 W. Central, Wichita, Kan. 67212.
