Arch Williamm Fees Jr.

HOLLIDAYSBURG — FEES – Dr. Arch William Jr., 76, Hollidaysburg, passed away Nov. 17, 2012, at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md., surrounded by his family. Born July 15, 1936, in Spangler, son of Dr. Arch William and Juliana (Connolly) Fees. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Connie Wychulis. Survived by wife, Susan Olivia (Pavey) Fees, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1964; children, Kelly (Scott) Atkinson, Elaine (Rick) Gallagher, Dr. Heather Fees, Susan (James) Sanders, Diane (Matthew) Krueger, James (Megan) Fees and Bridget (Dr. John K.) Monagle; and grandchildren, Lauren and Avery Atkinson; Kaylie, Rachel, Jacob and Trent Gallagher; Olivia and Madeline French; Hayden and Reed Sanders; and Harrison, Chase and Henry Krueger. Also survived by sisters, Ann Marie Ranck, Juliana Kirsch and Gretchen Kirsch; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arch graduated in 1958 from the University of Notre Dame. He earned his medical degree in 1962 from Temple University Medical School. He served his internship in 1962 at Geisinger Medical Center, his surgical residency at Harrisburg General Hospital and completed his urology residency at St. Vincent Hospital, Erie, Pa. Arch was well-known in his community as a respected urologist. He practiced medicine at Altoona Hospital and many other hospitals in Blair and Cambria counties for nearly three decades. During the Vietnam War, he served as captain in the U.S. Air Force. He provided life-saving medical and surgical care for countless wounded soldiers. Arch took pride in cheering for the Fighting Irish. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling, particularly throughout the American West, Alaska and Canada. A favorite pastime of his was studying military history, especially World War II and the Civil War. Dad’s loving spirit will forever live in our hearts. His joyous character, countless jokes and gregarious nature touched the hearts and lives of so many. Dad lived for and loved his wife, children and grandchildren. His sense of humor, kindness and determination will carry on for generations. He will be sadly missed. Friends received from 9 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, in the Boniface Wimmer Room at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, the Rev. Jude W. Brady, OSB, celebrant. Interment, church cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded by local veterans. Arrangements are under the directions of Stevens Funeral Home Inc., Carrolltown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. (www.stevensfh.com)
