NORTHERN CAMBRIA — MUIR – William J., 94, Northern Cambria, died Jan. 4, 2013, at his daughter’s home in Greensburg. Born May 1, 1918, in Bakerton, son of John R. and Annie (Jewett) Muir. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Mary Joan (Kline), Aug. 16, 2011; sisters, Agnes Muir, Sarah Dooley and Christine Wasser; and brother, Robert Muir. Survived by children, Mary Louise (Serge) Gagnon, Blainville, Quebec, Canada, and Janice Kathryn (Ronald) Grant, Greensburg; grandchildren, Jeremy Shayne and Marie Christine Gagnon; Sarah Kathryn (Peter) Walsh; and Daniel William (Angela Faust) Grant; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel Paul and Deacon Arthur Grant. U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Retired from Cambria Heights School District, where he taught elementary school for 42 years. Member of Spangler United Methodist Church. Member of PSEA, AARP, Retired Teachers Association, Carrolltown American Legion and past member and past president of Western Pennsylvania Mink Rangers Association. He was one of the first Eagle Scouts in Cambria County, where he served as scout master for many years. Friends received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Long-Contres Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Paul Demi. Military rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations. Interment, St. Nicholas Church Cemetery.
