Marion Benson Longo

SALEM, VA. — LONGO –  Marion Benson, Salem, Va. We celebrate the life of Marion Benson Longo, who passed away Dec. 30, 2012.  Marion was born Oct. 25, 1920, to Gladys and Gideon Benson in Newfoundland, Canada.  During World War II, she met and married John D. Longo, who was stationed in Newfoundland.  In 1944, they married and she moved to Johnstown, John’s hometown.  Their marriage lasted 54 years until his death in 1999.  They raised two daughters, Judy and Beverly.  Marion was known for her immaculate housekeeping skills, baking, gardening and a fine cup of Red Rose tea. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Frank, Sarah, Clyde, Vera, Reg and Ruby. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Hushour, Richmond, Va., and Beverly (Ray) Henry, Flagstaff, Ariz.  She leaves behind seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are her sister, Melvie; brother, Alton, both of Canada; sister-in-law, Jane Benson, Columbus, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Her daughters would like to extend their gratitude for the fine care provided by the staff on 3 East at Richfield Rehab and Care Center, Salem, Va., and to Wanda Woolwine, Roanoke, her at-home care provider for many years. We all will surely miss her keen sense of style, witty humor and beautiful face! All services will be private at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army in your area.
