PORTAGE — KOVACH – James P. Sr., 53, Portage, passed away Jan. 14, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Jan. 17, 1959, in Johnstown, son of the late John and Mary E. (Salsgiver) Kovach-Smith. Survived by loving wife of 35 years, Rebecca (Smith) Kovach, Portage; children, Mandy, wife of Manuel DeGraffenreid, Wilkes-Barre; James Kovach Jr., Portage; and Ryan Kovach, married to the former Maria Sinosky, Portage; and grandchildren, Chloe, Isa and Ryder. Brother of John Kovach, married to the former Diane McCabe, Portage; Gloria, wife of John Nesbella, Portage; Kenneth Kovach, married to the former Theresa Malenich, Winchester, Va.; Barbara, wife of Gerald Sigado, Winchester, Va.; and Joanne, wife of Jim DeMatteis, Portage. Owner of Kovach Forestry and was formerly employed by Martindale Lumber. Former Portage Township Supervisor who enjoyed talking, helping and interacting with people in the township. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Pastor Tim Dietrich, officiating. Committal will be private.
