UPPER YODER TOWNSHIP — BENNETT – Shirley M., 77, Upper Yoder, passed away Jan. 16, 2013, at Good Sam Palliative Care. Born April 9, 1935, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Ernest and Magdalene (Hettle) Oaks. Also preceded in death by sister, Connie L. Oaks; sister-in-law, Virginia Oaks; and brothers-in-law, Tom Woodward, James Townsend, Willard Russell Jones and Roy Bennett. Survived by loving husband, Earl S. Bennett; daughter, Cynthia M., wife of Charles Ickes Jr., Johnstown; grandchildren, Courtney M. Ickes, Masontown, Pa.; and USMC LCPL Charles R. Ickes III, Afghanistan; brothers, Ernest L. Oaks; and Eugene H., married to the former Vivette Cook, all of Johnstown; sister, Nancy L. Woodward, Pittsburgh; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jones, South Fork; and Anna Townsend, Portage; also several nieces and nephews. Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Johnstown High School. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and Oakland Volunteer Fire Company ladies auxiliary. Shirley enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, TV game shows, bingo and playing cards, and loved spending time with her husband, daughter, grandchildren and family. Friends received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Father David Peles, pastor.
