AVENI – E. Ruth Lohr, 95, Westmont, died Jan. 20, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born March 31, 1917, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Claude and Ettie (Huff) Miles. Preceded in death by first husband, Harold Lohr, and second husband of 26 years, James F. Aveni, in March 2011. Also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Clara, Russell and Chester Miles, Margret Shultz and Mary Dunham. Survived by stepdaughter, Mary, and husband, Fred Harvey, Ebensburg; stepson, Carmen Joseph Aveni, and wife, Patricia, Hughesville, Md., and their families; and nieces, Rose Mary, and husband, Larry Hoffman, Red Line, and Nancy, and husband, Glen Dodd, Steep Falls, Maine, and their families. Also survived by several other nieces and nephews and many good friends. Ruth taught piano lessons for many years. She was a lifetime member of Franklin Street United Methodist Church, where in 2000, she was presented an award for 77 years of service as the church organist. Ruth, and her husband, Jim, volunteered and shared their music at Memorial Medical Center, where she also helped with secretarial duties. The two also volunteered their musical talents at the Atrium Manor and LaurelWood Care Center. Ruth and Jim’s motto was, “That’s the way the Lord wants it. We are supposed to help others.” Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd., the Rev. Terry Knipple, officiating. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Franklin Street United Methodist Church, 510 Locust St., Johnstown, Pa. 15901.
