JEROME — STETZ – Paul J. “Zig” Sr., 85, Jerome, died Jan. 30, 2013, at home. Born Jan. 2, 1928, in Jerome, son of Michael and Helen (Kostival) Stetz. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Ann Pipta, Mary Skero and Helen Baranik; and brothers, Michael, John, Steve and Sgt. George, who was killed in World War II. Survived by wife of 64 years, the former Almeda “Meadie” (McDaniel); sons, George, married to Linda Hay, Richland; and Paul J. Jr., married to Suzanne Shaffer, Johnstown; grandchildren, Michelle, married to Christopher Miller; Melanie, married to Michael Guidice; Jennifer, married to Jeremy Evans; and Michael Stetz; five great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; sister-in-law, Violet Geise; and brothers-in-law, Leo Baranik and Dick Carrico. A Navy veteran of World War II and retired employee of the former Island Creek Coal Co., Tire Hill. Member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Davidsville; Jerome Post 802 American Legion; and UMWA. Viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville, where vigil for the deceased will be held Sunday afternoon. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne Church, the Rev. Father Karl Kolodziejski, OFM, Conv., celebrant. Committal, Holy Cross Cemetery, Jerome, with graveside military rites accorded by Somerset County Honor Guard. Memorials to Jerome or Tire Hill EMS would be appreciated.
