I. Stanley Claycomb

OSTERBURG — CLAYCOMB – Mr. I. Stanley, 90, Ford Country Lane, Osterburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1923, in West St. Clair Township, son of the late Irvin and Clella (Mock) Claycomb. On July 26, 1941, he married Dale R. (Wentz) Claycomb. She preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 2009. Survived by son, James S., husband of  Jane (Beegle) Claycomb, Osterburg; daughter, Linda L. Claycomb, Osterburg; son, Joseph Z., husband of  Sandra (Miller) Claycomb, Osterburg; daughter, Debra D. Ryba, Osterburg; and son, Jeffrey K. Claycomb, and fiancee, Lorraine Deremer. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and  five great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by brother, Ernest Claycomb, and sister, Lavada Boozer. Member of the former St. James Lutheran Church, Alum Bank. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Tech 4 with the 341st Infantry Regiment. His company was awarded one Bronze Star. Stanley was a lifelong farmer. Prior to his service to his country, he was employed at Bedford Farm Bureau and Johnstown Sears & Roebuck Co. Stanley was an auctioneer for 50 years and the owner of the “Cow” and car wash in Alum Bank. Member of Pleasantville VFW Post 9219 and Bedford American Legion Post 113. He was a director of Rural Electric Association and co-founded the Old Bedford Village. Stanley served on Chestnut Ridge Water and Sewer Authority, was active in Pleasantville Industrial Park and was a founding member of Chestnut Ridge Ambulance Co. Past member of Alum Bank Fire Company and a member of Eastern Allied Milk Co-Operative. Stanley served his community as a two-term Bedford County Commissioner from 1972 to 1980. While in office, he was instrumental in establishing Pennknoll Village as a residence for the County Home patients. Stanley  and his farm were featured on the advertisement brochure for Ford Motor Co. Tractors that ran from 1981 to 1983. He enjoyed his time that he spent with his family and friends. He took pride in the enjoyment he provided to the people who came every year to view his extensive Christmas light display he had exhibited on his farm. Hunting, auctioneering and being at the Cow were the loves of Stanley’s life, a life dedicated to his family and to serving his community. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., Pleasantville, the Rev. Charles Jack, officiating. Interment, Bedford County Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home in Pleasantville.
