Vallie Ross Baker

SOMERSET — BAKER– Vallie Ross, 64, passed away peacefully at Siemon’s Lakeview Manor, Somerset after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born Aug. 20, 1948, the son of Alice and Elijah Baker, who preceded him in death. Vallie was survived by daughter, Jennifer, and husband, Don; son, Jason, and wife, Tori; and granddaughters, Roni-Lynn and Ray Anne. Upon his final day before passing, Vallie was surrounded by his daughter, Jennifer, and husband, Don; his granddaughters; and forever friend, Patty. Vallie was employed by McQuaide Trucking for 23 years, where he was known for his love of Steeler football and running all the football pools and organizing the bus trips to the Pirate games. He had many friends throughout the years who knew him as “Peetie.” After McQuaide’s, he worked as a corrections officer and a laborer, with his final job delivering newspapers throughout the town of Windber, which he loved. Vallie was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he was baptized at the age of 59 by his dear friend, Pastor Ray Streets Jr. Member of the Windber Moose, where he always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His last years in life were spent with his two granddaughters, “Binky” and “Tinker,” whom he loved more than life itself. His time with them was precious. During his illness, Vallie’s faith in God is what carried him through each day. The family wishes to thank the staff at Siemon’s and Windber Hospice for the care given to him during his illness.
