Survived by son, David, married to former Ruth Gindlesperger, Jennerstown; grandchildren, Thomas and Tyler Carroll; sister, Ada "Sis" Rhodes, Ligonier; stepdaughter, Gloria (Sheftic), married to Dan Decker, Pultneyville, N.Y., and their children, Dr. Jill Ogden, Elizabeth Schwartz and Noah Decker. U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Retired lab technician with former Gibson Electric, Delmont, Pa. Past employee of former B--W Hardware, Boswell. Member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Boswell, and the American Legion. Enjoyed watching football and Jeopardy on television. CLARK - James Edward
CLARK - James Edward, 62, Westover R.D., died July 11, 2007, in Clearfield County. The son of James F. and Elizabeth (Buterbaugh) Clark, he was born Aug. 19, 1944, in Garmantown, Pa. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, where he attended the Glen Campbell church site. Mr. Clark was a graduate of Harmony High School Class of 1962. In more recent years, Mr. Clark had been employed as an inspector with Erdman Anthony Consulting. He had worked as a sewing machine mechanic at Carol Ann in Hastings and at Safetybak in Altoona. He had also previously worked at the shirt factory in Barnesboro and the shoe factory in Hastings. Mr. Clark liked to go hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed farming and doing woodworking projects. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth, Westover; his loving companion, Mary Jane Mattis, Arcadia; his children, Brenda L. Coble, and husband, Jeff, Woodbridge, Va., and James E. Clark Jr., Armagh; seven grandchildren; his sister, JoAnn Dudash, and husband, Joseph, St. Mary's; brother, Donald K. Clark, and wife, Ruth, Westover; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his father on May 26, 1996. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd., Hillsdale. A 10 a.m. funeral Mass will be held Saturday at the Church of the Resurrection in Glen Campbell, with the Rev. Father Paul Lisik officiating. FABIAN - Mrs. Catherine F. (Burdziak), 90, Windber, died peacefully July 11, 2007, at Windber Medical Center. Born Jan. 28, 1917, in Yatesboro, Pa., daughter of Michael and Anna Burdziak. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Stephen; sisters, Esther Hirth and Rose Chambers; brothers, Michael and John; and grandson Robert Kozak. Survived by daughters, Frances, wife of the late David Reynolds, Pittsburgh; Betty, wife of the late Tom Kozak, Cleveland; and Joyce, wife of Michael Muscatello, Windber. Sister of Ann Nekola and Mary Celeski, both of Dearborn, Mich., also numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Catherine lived at the Church of the Brethren Home, Windber, where she was an active resident. She loved baking and cooking for her friends and family and enjoyed the company of others. At Easter, she decorated Ukrainian Easter eggs. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday, TOR Franciscans. FIGARO - Cheryl J. (Halbritter), 57, Johnstown, went to be with our Lord July 10, 2007, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Oct. 13, 1949, daughter of the late Earl K. and Veneta (Sideras) Halbritter. She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Michele Haselrig and Monique Suide, both of Johnstown; brothers, Ronald Halbritter, Pittsburgh, and David Halbritter, Martinsburg; and sisters, Darlene Halbritter and Susan Patterson, both of Altoona, and Debbie Halbritter, Johnstown. Her grandchildren, Demetrius, Trey, Cantara, Carlton Jr., Carlee, Christopher, Cameron and Ciara, and her very dear friend, Sally Hudlin, all of Johnstown; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Cheryl was a 1967 graduate of Altoona Area High School and received an associate degree from South Hills College in Altoona. Before her illness, she was employed as the payroll clerk at Intermedia Marketing. There she made many dear friends that made her work a pleasure. Cheryl enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet, also she loved "them Steelers." Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of Homegoing Service at 1 p.m. at her church home, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 205 Peelor St., Prospect, the Rev. Andrew W. GOOD - Franklin H. "Pete," 91, Punta Gorda, Fla., formerly of Barnesboro, died July 10, 2007, at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Home, Port Charlotte, Fla. Born May 28, 1916, in Barr Township, son of Benjamin F. and Martha A. (Marks) Good. Survived by loving wife, Annie A. "Blondie" (Anderson) Gentles-Good, and daughter, Rochelle F. Lester, both of Punta Gorda, Fla.; grandsons, David, Craig and James Vargo, and great-grandsons, Brandon Stevens and Daniel Vargo. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Pete was the youngest of 12 children and the last surviving member of his immediate family. HOOVER - Mahlon R., 89, formerly of Portage, died July 11, 2007, at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born July 13, 1917, in Huntingdon, son of Cloyd W. and Grace (McMonigal) Hoover. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bernice I. (Moser) Hoover, who died Oct. 27, 2000. He is survived by his children, Dr. Shirley Hoover Hercules, and her husband, Dr. David Hercules, Nashville, Tenn.; Dr. Alan D. Hoover, and his wife, Linda (Lively), Pittsburgh; and Dr. Larry J. Hoover, and his wife, Denise (Schaffranek), Allison Park; and grandchildren, Sherri Hercules Sokolovich, Kevin Michael Hercules, Melissa Hoover Troutman, Bradley Scott Hoover, Ryan Jeffrey Hoover and Kristen Marie Hoover. Mahlon attended Juniata College, where he met Bernice; they married shortly after graduation. They lived in Portage all of their married life. Mahlon was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Portage; Summit Masonic Lodge 312; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Mount Moriah Royal Arch Chapter 166; and the Ebensburg Camp of the Gideons International. HORNBAKER - Roger L., 54, 313 Seventh St., Windber, formerly of Mercersburg, Pa., died July 9, 2007, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center/ Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, Pa. Born July 29, 1952, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was a son of Phyllis L. Hornbaker of McConnellsburg, Pa. He was a grandson of the late Lewis H. and Eva Buterbaugh Hornbaker. A minister, he founded Tiny Land Ministries of McConnellsburg. He was a former employee of Tuscarora School District and JLG, McConnellsburg. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Catherine M. Bell Spangler Hornbaker, whom he married June 28, 2007; eight stepchildren, 17 stepgrandchildren; sister, Cindy Straley, Saxton; and a niece, Sarah E. Short, and a great-nephew, Daniel O. Short, both of McConnellsburg. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. July 14th at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with the Rev. Larry Murphy officiating. LAUTERBACH - Loretta J., 85, Meadowood of Worcester, formerly of Abington, Pa., and Palm Desert, Calif., died July 3, 2007. She was the wife of the late Dr. Edwin W. Lauterbach. She was born in Seanor, Pa., on Feb. 23, 1922, to the late Merril and Genevieve (Feldbaur) Holsopple. Mrs. Lauterbach was a former registered nurse specializing in anesthesia, working for multiple hospitals in the Philadelphia area for over 25 years. She was a graduate of Women's Homeopathic School and Jefferson University Nursing School and Anesthesia School. She was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Nurse Corps. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Abington; Philadelphia Horticultural Society; and Women's Homeopathic Alumni Association. Was a 45-year member of Manufacturer's Golf and Country Club and a member of Ironwood Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif. She is survived by her son, Richard E. Lauterbach, Girdwood, Ark., three sisters Twila Whittier, Arizona; Carolyn Miller, Meadeville, Pa.; Joyce McGinnis, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Brian Holsopple. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007, at the Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road at Susquehanna Road, Abington, Pa. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be private at Laudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Md. SEIFERT - Edward Francis
SEIFERT - Edward Francis, our strong and caring father, passed away at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City N.Y. at 10 a.m. July 11 after a short illness. Edward is the son of Mildred (Trautman) Seifert and Francis Seifert, formerly of Kraft Street, Johnstown. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Charity P. (Dunham) Seifert, in 2005. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard. Edward was an Eagle Scout and served as a Scoutmaster for a number of years for Boy Scouts of America in Union Center, N.Y. He was an active member of the Binghamton Bicycle Club and was retired from a long career at IBM. In the last several years, he donated his time to AARP by teaching defensive driving courses. He is predeceased by his parents, Francis and Mildred Seifert of Johnstown, and his sister, Vivian. He is survived by his five children, Randolph Seifert, Richard Seifert, Robin Walker, Rayne Butler and Russell Seifert, as well as 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3505 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal N.Y. 13850. All are welcome. Preceded in death by brother, Dean. Survived by wife, the former Alice Semelsberger, whom he married June 13, 1949, in Ebensburg; children, William Jr. (Gina), Ebensburg R.D.; and Constance "Connie" Bennett (John), Westmont; grandchildren, Carrie Stock-Lane (Michael), Kelly Stock, J. Brandon Barr and Erik Barr (fiance, Carrie Holland); stepgrandchildren, Eric Bennett and Christina Bennett-Fee (Brian); and brother, Lawrence Marlin (Donna), Akron, N.Y. World War II Army veteran where he was awarded the Meritorious Unit Award and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandpap and great-grandpap. He enjoyed spending time at the family farm, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Worked as a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel Car Shops, Johnstown, for 40 years and retired in 1983. Member of NRA, AARP, Cresson American Legion, U.S. Steelworkers Union, Local 2635, Civil Liberties Union and Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg. WILLIAMS - Donald E. Sr. "Sarge," 67, Maple Avenue, Ebensburg, died July 10, 2007, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. Born March 20, 1940, in Illinois, son of the late Louis and Lucille (Fitzpatrick) Williams. He is preceded in death by his brother, Herb. He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, the former Marie (Natcher) Scanlan, and these children: Mark (Deborah) Darwin, Geneseo, Ill.; Tracy (Charles) Weidlich, San Antonio, Texas; Donald E. Jr. (Brenda) Williams, Loretto; Cheryl (Scott) Hollingsworth, Revloc; Tricia (Jeff) Braniff, Revloc; and Greg (Tina) Scanlan, Jeffrey (Raeann) Scanlan and Brian (Carol) Scanlan, all of Ebensburg. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, one great-grandson, as well as his brother, Ronald (Linda) Williams, Davenport, Idaho. A Vietnam veteran (two tours), sergeant first class, E-7, he served a total of 37 years in the U.S. Army, both active and reserve duties. Eight of those years were served as an Army recruiter. He also served with the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was decorated with the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medals, Army Reserves Components Achievement Medal, Army Service and Army Reserve Service Ribbons, National Defense Service Medals, Vietnam Service Medals, NCO Professional Development Ribbons, Overseas Service Ribbons, Vietnam Service and Vietnam Campaign Medals and numerous others. He is a member of the Ebensburg Post 4963 VFW. Don also worked in the coal mines, as a mine inspector in Cambria and Somerset counties. He loved his extensive family, traveling, telling jokes and John Wayne movies. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg. Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ebensburg United Methodist Church, the Rev. Roger Johnson and the Rev. John Bennett officiating. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery. Military graveside ritual by the Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team.
