Hilary A. Schrum

JOHNSTOWN — SCHRUM – Hilary A., 84, Brownstown, died Feb. 28, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born May 14, 1928, in Johnstown, son of Daniel and Ethel C. (Blawn) Schrum. Preceded in death by parents; granddaughter, Katrina Ann Pinkas; son-in-law, Juergen Mathes; brothers, William Schrum and Jean Schrum; and sisters Eileen Schrum and Wilma “Pat” Kubanda. Survived by loving wife of 62 years, Lucille (Kurtz) Schrum, Brownstown; and children, Rita Mathes; Karen, married to Anthony Pinkas; and Robin, married to Gary Spack, all of Johnstown; Douglas, married to the former Bonnie Romig, Hanover, Pa.; and Thaddeus, married to the former Sandra Martinek, Johnstown. Also survived by grandchildren, Kimberly Mathes; Christel Kosis, and husband, Joseph; Tammy Gawel, and husband, Robert; Eric Mathes; Jacob, and wife, Bethany Pinkas; Izeke Pinkas, and fiancee, Erin; Melia Pinkas; April Hicks, and husband, Jay; Todd Spack; Adam Schrum, and wife, Christina; Benjamin Schrum, and wife, Beth; Caleb Schrum; Damaris Schrum; Luke Schrum; and Aurora Schrum; and great-grandchildren, Kevin Mathes, Alexandria Kosis, Mikayla Kosis, Corey Kosis, Tanner Kosis, Danika Kosis, Haley Mathes, Abigail Gawel, Layla Schrum, Conner Schrum, Ethan Schrum, Eli Schrum, Olivia Schrum and McKinleigh Pinkas. Brother of Don Schrum, and wife, Gwendaline; and Noreen, married to Nicholas Molchan, both of Johnstown; and brother-in-law, William Kubanda, Johnstown. A U.S. Navy veteran during World War II and active member of various military organizations. Retired employee with 42 years of service for GTE Telephone Co. A dedicated leader in the community of Brownstown Borough, he was an avid golfer. A parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Brownstown Borough, where funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, the Franciscan Friars, OFM, Conv. Interment, Grandview Cemetery, where Conemaugh Detachment of the Marine Corps League Ritual Team will perform military honors. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street, where Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Brownstown in memory of Hilary Schrum. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Condolences may be sent at ozogfh.com.
