George F. Bertram

CRESSON — BERTRAM – George F., 86, Cresson, died March 4, 2013, at home. Born July 5, 1926, in Gallitzin, son of the late Herman and Alice (Stevens) Bertram. Preceded in death by first wife, Cora; second wife, Catherine; and stepson, Edward Helsel III. Survived by wife, Brenda (Lefort), whom he married Nov. 7, 2001; children, Georgina Bender (David), Lilly; and James Bertram (Pattie Ann), Altoona; and stepchildren, Sarah Gongloff (Gerald), Loretto; Paul Adkins (Laurie), St. Michael; Wayne Adkins (Tina), Patton; and Charles Helsel (Debbie), Johnstown. Also survived by niece, Marie Kuntz (Bill), Lilly; and other children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. He had worked as a coal miner, and most recently was employed at Red Carpet Auctioneers, Cresson. Life member of Sankertown VFW and member of Loretto American Legion. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment, Cresson Cemetery. Military graveside rites by Sankertown VFW and other local veteran organizations. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
