JOHNSTOWN — MERX – John F., 92, Johnstown, died Feb. 21, 2013, at the Atrium Manor. Born Feb. 1, 1921, in Johnstown, son of John P. and Mary A. (Roach) Merx. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Irene C. (Fleming) Merx; second wife, Clara (Born) Merx; and sister, Helen Spinda. Survived by stepdaughter, Judy, wife of Ron Bako; stepgrandchildren, Mark (Jessica) and Michael Bako; nephews, John F. and Edward Spinda; and niece, Patricia Boring. Also survived by numerous great-nephews and -nieces. Member of St. Clare of Assisi Church, the former St. Anthony Church, where he served as a reader, server, Eucharistic minister; and member of the Holy Name Society; Knights of Columbus Council 467 for 74 years; All Saints Fourth Degree Assembly 954; Sons of Italy Lodge 1614; Nocturnal Adoration Society; St. Rocco Society; and Ancient Order of Hibernians. John also served as Eucharistic minister at Lee Hospital for many years. A 1940 graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School and U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., 710 Broad St., where Knights of Columbus All Saints Fourth Degree Assembly 954 will post honor guard from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, Father Matthew Misurda, officiating. Private committal at Grandview Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Bishop McCort High School, 25 Osborne St., Johnstown, Pa. 15905, in memory of John.
