CUMBERLAND, MD. — SIMMONS – Jessie Mae “Bunnie,” 81, Cumberland, Md., died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the home of her daughter. Born May 9, 1931, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Ralph Paul Young and Elizabeth (Shaw) Young. Also preceded in death by husband, Leonard Simmons, on Sept. 6, 1987; and sister, Blodwyn Taylor. Bunnie took pride in her career as a wife and mother. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She enjoyed a second career as the proprietor of Bunnie’s Tavern. She served homestyle meals, cold beer and lots of fun. After Bunnie’s “retirement,” she continued to hostess on weekends. Bunnie’s favorite vacation spot was her home. She liked to garden and was especially proud of her tomatoes. One of her greatest talents was her embroidery. She spent countless hours creating beautiful linens that are treasured gifts by her family and friends. Survived by daughters, Deborah S. Kagle, Hagerstown, Md.; and Charlene E. Mechem, LaVale, Md.; brother, Ralph “Sonny” Young Jr., and wife, Betty, Johnstown; grandchildren, Erica Garwood, and husband, Gregory; and Drew Kagle; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jessa and Jack Garwood. Also survived by Pete Mechem and Rick and Barbara Kagle. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Adams Family Funeral Home, PA, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, Md., where funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.
