JOHNSTOWN — NEW– Jean W., 78, Johnstown, passed away Oct. 17, 2012, in Rome, Italy, while traveling with her husband of 54 years, J. Robert New. Jean was born Dec. 26, 1933, in Blairsville, the daughter of the late Nathan and Marguerite (Werner) Falk. Preceded in death by son, Christopher New. Survived by loving husband; daughter, Eileen Weimer, and husband, Chris, Nanty Glo; son, Keith New, and wife, Jana, Mechanicsburg; daughter, Elizabeth Kennedy, and husband, John, Overland Park, Kan.; daughter, Jennifer, New York, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Also survived by brother, Ronald Falk, and wife, Judy, Milford; two nephews; and one niece. Jean was employed as a ladies’ editor with the Latrobe Bulletin, a columnist with The Blairsville Dispatch and The Catholic Accent of the Greensburg Diocese and an advertising manager for Benscreek Pharmacy. She was a financial counselor for St. Vincent de Paul; a volunteer for the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Good Samaritan Nursing Care Center and Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital; a member of Stephen Ministries; a hospice care provider; and past president of the Seton Hill College alumnae board. Jean was also a very active member of the Church of the Visitation, BVM, where she was a Eucharistic minister, lector and member of the church collection committee and helped to deliver meals to homebound parishioners, and where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. Barry J. Baroni. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., West Hills, 921 Menoher Blvd. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jean to the Church of the Visitation BVM, 1127 McKinley Ave., Johnstown, Pa. 15905 or to St. Vincent de Paul Family Kitchen, 231 Bedford St., Johnstown, Pa. 15901.
