PITTSBURGH — HERKO – Peter, 89, Pittsburgh, formerly of Conemaugh, died Oct. 31, 2012, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born June 23, 1923, in Johnstown, son of Michael and Martha (Prosuch) Herko. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Martha Lazor; son, Michael; brothers, Michael, John and Joe; and sisters, Irene, Betty, Martha, Ann and Mary. Survived by children, Elizabeth “Beth” Warrick, Stamford, Conn.; Peter (Jana Turpish), Haddon Township, N.J.; and Nicholas (Lisa Glegyak), Pittsburgh. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Brother of Aleck (widow of Violet), Johnstown; and Julia Radomsky, Piscataway, N.J. Member of Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, where he served as cantor. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp., with 38 years of service. Army veteran of World War II, and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Friends will be received from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Henderson-Makuchan Funeral Home, 434 First St., Conemaugh, where Parastas will be sung at 3:30 p.m. Funeral will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday with a brief service at the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Father Robert Oravetz. Interment, St. Vladimir Cemetery.
