PORTAGE — POORMAN – Lester D., 73, Portage, passed away surrounded by his family Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Dec. 14, 1938, in Portage, son of George and Rosella (Pauley) Poorman. Preceded in death by parents; son, Thomas A. Williams; grandson, Jason T. Williams; and brother-in-law, Charles Nagle. Lester is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, former Janet J. Riggleman, and these children: James A. Williams, Texas; Cathy L., wife of Terry White, Portage; Joseph R. Williams, and wife, Donna (Chappell), Texas; Mark L. Poorman, and wife, Michele (Vena), Portage; and Kimberly K., wife of Terry G. Seaman Jr., Portage. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Brother of Rose Marie Nagle, Johnstown; David Poorman, and wife, Elizabeth (Sease); and George Poorman, and wife, Mary Lou (McKrush), Portage. Lester was a graduate of Portage Area High School. He worked as a steelworker, coal miner and MSHA federal health and safety inspector. Prior to his working career, he served as a military police officer for two years while stationed in Germany. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Steelers and NASCAR fan. Lester mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially happy when he was with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and all that knew him. Funeral arrangements were in care of Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Portage. As per Lester’s wishes, funeral service was held privately for the family, the Rev. Daniel Hellmann of Wesleyan Holiness Church, Portage, officiated. Committal was held at Prospect Cemetery, Portage. Memorial donations can be made in Lester’s name to Wesleyan Holiness Church and/or the Portage Public Library.
