NORTHERN CAMBRIA — FAGAN – Freda Grace (Ross), 86, Northern Cambria, passed away Dec. 19, 2012, at Golden Living Center, HAIDA. Born March 15, 1926, in Ebensburg, daughter of John M. and Eva (Harvey) Ross. Preceded in death by parents; husband, George R. “Bud” Fagan Sr., who died in 1983; brother, Patrick Ross; and sisters, Norma Allen and Betsy Ross. Survived by her only son, George R. Fagan Jr., husband of Bonnie (Nicewonger), Erie; twin grandsons, Ross and Bruce Fagan; sister, Jean Avaritt, West Virginia; several loving nieces and nephews; special friend, Kathy Williams, Northern Cambria; and the “Girls from Nursing.” Member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and former St. Patrick Catholic Church. Longtime member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas. A 1944 graduate of Ebensburg High School, and a 1947 graduate of Miners Hospital School of Nursing. Freda went on to work at Miners Hospital for 25 years as a registered nurse and the director of the nurse’s aide training program. After retiring from Miners Hospital, she continued working with area coal miners as a nurse for the Federal Black Lung Program. Freda was very proud of her Scotch-Irish heritage, she was fiercely independent, enjoyed playing cards and being with friends at Northern Cambria Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed vacations, seeing America and the occasional bus trip to the casino. But her most cherished role was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was most proud of her grandsons. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Chapel, Father Larry Lacovic, officiating. Committal, Holy Cross Cemetery.
