DUNCANSVILLE — WOLF – David “Rod,” 82, Duncansville, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Altoona Regional. Born Oct. 24, 1930, in Ebensburg, son of the late John A. and Edna (Evans) Wolf. He married Lois Nicodemus Johnnie on Feb. 8, 1995, in Altoona. Surviving are his wife; sons, David (Amanda), Ashburn, Va.; and Brian (Karen), Norfolk, Mass.; sisters, Daryle Withington, Hollidaysburg; and Barbara (Charles) McFadden, Atlanta, Ga.; and grandchildren, Teresa, Kathleen, Sarah and Elizabeth Wolf. Also survived by stepchildren, Douglas (Nancie) Johnnie and Kim (Kenneth) Defilbugh; and stepgrandchildren, Douglas and Angelina Johnnie and Julie Riehl. Predeceased by brothers, Donald, John Anthony Jr., and infant, Robert; and sisters, Naomi Annin, Leone Eivers, Gretchen Straple, and infant, Carol Wolf. Also predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Dostal Wolf. Rod was a 1948 graduate of Ebensburg High School and attended Columbia University in New York. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953. He was the owner of WRTA radio station and 1240 Associates advertising agency. Member of United Way (chairman), American Heart Association (past president), Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters, Altoona Association of Manufactures and other civic and philanthropic organizations. He was a political analyst for more than 40 years, having worked on local, regional and national campaigns, as well as television and radio election coverage for the Blair County region. He received countless local and national recognition for award winning editorials, including two Golden Quill Awards (Distinguished Achievement in Journalism and Editorial Radio Commentary). He was one of the first television personalities in the state of Pennsylvania and was of the youngest news anchors in the country. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, immediately followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Rod’s memory may be given to Blair County Humane Society.
