DAVIDSVILLE — SHIRK – Jacob D. Jr., 92, Davidsville, died Jan. 22, 2013, at Laurel View Village. Born Aug. 12, 1920, in North Woodbury Township, Blair County, son of Jacob D. Sr. and Verle (Shriner) Shirk. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 45 years, Helen (Shultz) Shirk; and sisters, Alma Miller and Ruth Pumphrey. Survived by sisters, Mary Moore, Ina (Roy) Miller, Mae (Charles) Clark and Jane Shirk; brother, Blair (Marguerite) Shirk; brother-in-law, Richard Shultz; sister-in-law, Louise Shultz, and many nieces and nephews. Member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Hollsopple, where he had previously served on administrative council, was a trustee and church treasurer for many years. He was a graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg, and IUP with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s in education from West Virginia University. He retired from Greater Johnstown School District. Jake was a World War II Army veteran. He enjoyed volunteering with St. Francis Caring and Sharing Food Pantry. Also a member of Conemaugh Lions Club and was named a Lellow in the Lions Club of Pennsylvania Foundation. Family receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at George E. Mason Funeral Home Inc., Davidsville, and from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church, Hollsopple, Pastors Edward C. Patterson, Robert Hinrichsen and Wes Yoder, officiating. Please make donations to Bethel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, the ACSC at Laurel View Village or St. Francis Food Pantry, Hollsopple.
