A. Mary Briltz

WINDBER — BRILTZ – Mrs. A. Mary, 92, Windber, died Oct. 21, 2012, at Church of the Brethren Home, Windber. Born June 25, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., daughter of  John and Dorothy (Gilbert) McWarden. Preceded in death by parents and husband, Adam H. Briltz. Survived by son, Edward G. Metka, and partner, Brenda E. Mills, Windber. Grandmother to Edward A. Metka, married to the former Merri Beardon, Johnstown, N.Y.; David J. Metka, married to the former Susan Stiller, Georgetown, Ind.; and Karen A. (Metka) Jensen, Corydon, Ind. Also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mary completed her high school education during 1937 in Chicago, Ill., and continued her post secondary education throughout her professional career in the field of financial management. She retired from Sonoma County (CA) Water Agency in 1977, after completing a highly successful career, with numerous awards, as the chief finance and accounting officer of the organization. After retiring, Mary and her husband, Adam, moved to Las Vegas, Nev., where they lived until Adam’s death in 2002. Several months later, Mary moved to Windber to live with her son initially, until she needed to be in an assisted living environment at LaurelWood, and then subsequently at Church of the Brethren in Windber. Memorial service for Mary will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of the Brethren Home, basement activities room, followed by a reception for all attendees, Pastor Bob Lindsay of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Windber, officiating.
