SIDMAN — BEVERIDGE – Norman J., 87, Sidman, died Dec. 10, 2012, at James E. Van Zandt Veterans Center, Altoona. Born Sept. 23, 1925, in St. Michael, son of John and Emma (Price) Beveridge. Preceded in death by parents and stepfathers, Raymond Costlow and George Smith. Survived by loving wife of 65 years, Wilma C. (Folmer) Beveridge, whom he married Oct. 18, 1947; daughter, Tomma Lee, wife of John Furst, Sinking Spring; son, Curtis, married to Carrie Moller, Spokane, Wash.; grandchildren, Eric Furst, married to Theresa Chang, Philadelphia; Shannon (Furst) Manautines, Weston, Fla.; and Jonathan Beveridge, married to Rachel Bolen, West Melbourne, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Chloe Furst and Daniel Manautines; brothers, Carlisle, and wife, June, Spring Hill, Fla.; and Ray Costlow, married to Delores Cardonne, Granada Hills, Calif.; special niece, Carol, wife of Don Sauter, South Fork; and their grandson, Bryan Sauter, married to Jocelyn McNeel, Johnstown; brother and sister-in-law, Byron “Bucky” and Debbie Folmer, Blairsville, Ga.; nephew, Paul Miller, Ocklawaha, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Norman was a 1943 graduate of Adams Township High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 through 1945 as a radar operator on the destroyer escort USS Oberrender (344). He was awarded five battle stars and a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in an attack by a Japanese kamikaze plane. After the war, he worked as an electrical lineman for Bethlehem Steel for 35 years and retired in 1982. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sidman, and St. Michael American Legion Post 551. He served as a school board member for the former Adams Township-Summerhill School District. Norman enjoyed a very close relationship with his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emile and Alice Folmer, who preceded him in death. “PaPa” was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who greatly valued his family. His greatest joy was visiting with family members and his many friends. Norman will be deeply missed by all. Friends received from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, by the Rev. David McGee. Military graveside service by St. Michael American Legion Post 551.
