Dorothy Mae Howard

HOWARD – Dorothy Mae, 83, Boswell, died March 17, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Nov. 16, 1926, in Somerset County, to Owen Milton Brendle and Fannie Viola (Edminston). Preceded in death by parents and husband, VanBuren Byrd Howard, who died Oct. 31, 1982. Survived by children, Susan C. Betta, and husband, Anthony, Pittsburgh; Lyle W. Howard, married to the former Catherine Corsano, Woodbridge, N.J.; and Byrd S. Howard, and friend, Marlene Saler, Boswell; grandchildren, Anthony J. Betta, and wife, Rachel, Pittsburgh; Van Owen Betta, and fiancee, Brianne, River Edge, N.J.; Timothy J. Betta, Pittsburgh; Meghan Howard, Cambridge, Mass.; and Andi Howard, Woodbridge, N.J.; great-granddaughters, Kaela and Veronica; and brother, Robert W. Brendle, Somerset. Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of Somerset High School and a 1948 graduate of Waynesburg College. Member of Somerset Church of the Brethren, where she sang in the choir and was a part of the quilters group. Also a member of Red Hat Society and OA. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, the Rev. Eric Kabler, officiating. Interment, Sipesville Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Parkinson Chapter of Pittsburgh, 6507 Wilkins Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15501. (www.haugerzeigler.com)
