Oden D. "Odie" Shumaker

SHUMAKER – Oden D. “Odie,” 81, Jerome, went to be with the Lord March 17, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family. Born Dec. 4, 1928, in Melcroft, Pa., son of Alvin Sr. and Etta Mae (Ritenour) Shumaker. Preceded in death by parents; infant son, Mark A.; and brother, Clyde. Survived by children, Patty, married to Emanuel “Manny” Coleman Jr., with whom Oden resided; Timothy, and wife, Kim, Norfolk, Va.; Barbara Ann Landis, Berlin; and Mike, and wife, Amy, Hooversville; grandchildren, Jennifer Stouffer, Davidsville; Emanuel “Budd” Coleman III, Jerome; Mary Ann Landis, Berlin; and Joshua Hill and Mark and Ryan Shumaker, all of Hooversville; special great-grandson, Travis Thomas, who was Pappy’s “little buddy”; brothers, David and wife, Doris, Newport News, Va.; Herbert, and wife, Hazel, Somerset; Abraham, and wife, Doris, Somerset; Alvin Jr., and friend, JoAnn, Grantsville, Md.; Harold, and wife, Bonnie, North Carolina; and Robert, Grantsville, Md.; and sisters, Betty, married to Arthur Bear, Somerset; Helen, widow of James Satcho, Pittsburgh; and Bonnie, married to William Miller, Grantsville, Md.; also numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Retired from the former Coleman Co. (now Fleetwood), Somerset. He also was employed by Kenny Ross Chevrolet, Somerset, and Watkins Chevrolet, Boswell. Member of Somerset Aerie 1801, FOE, and Somerset County REACT. Life member of Jerome Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a member of the fire police. Odie was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a volunteer for Somerset Food Pantry and Berlin Senior Center. He enjoyed building puzzles and doing lawn and garden work, but especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Pastor Denise Todero, presiding.
