Mary Terra McGuire

McGUIRE – Mary Terra, 94, a 20-year resident of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and formerly a longtime resident of Highland, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Mrs. McGuire worked in IBM Poughkeepsie up until her retirement. Prior to that, she was a proofreader for the Poughkeepsie Journal. She also did volunteer work for Vassar Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was a member of the Great Book Club, Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie and St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland, N.Y. Born March 2, 1915, in Jenners, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anastasia Krisko Hrib. She graduated from Boswell High School in 1932. On July 13, 1935, she married her first husband, Edward Terra, and then married him again in 1947 in a Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Terra preceded her in death in May 1977. She married her second husband, Edward McGuire, in October 1982, and he preceded her in death on June 1985. Survivors include daughters, Barbara Burfeindt, and her husband, Jerry, Highland, N.Y., and Phyllis Lim, and her husband, Rory, Tuscon, Ariz.; her grandchildren: Jeffrey; Jerry Jr.; Jacqueline Miller, and her husband, Louis III; and Phyllis Ljuljdjuraj, and her husband, Vinny; her sister, Ann Gruner, and her husband, Fred, Highland; several stepchildren from the McGuire family; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Rhib, and her sister, Julia Hrib. There was no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Highland. Burial followed in the Highland Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 38 Mill St., Highland.
