Clara Belle (Crowder) Hemminger


HEMMINGER – Clara Belle (Crowder), 84, The Patriot, Somerset, formerly of Boswell R.D., went to be with Jesus Nov. 27, 2009, at The Patriot. Born March 2, 1925, in Johnstown, daughter of James and Bertha (Griffith) Crowder. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 53 years, Wilbert H., in 1997; son, Paul, in 1999; brother, George; and sisters, Verna Rishell and Delores Mazzarese. Survived by son, Leroy, married to the former Gloria Dixon, Hollsopple; granddaughter, Dana Hemminger, Windber; stepgrandson, Philip Smiley Jr., Fishertown; a few nieces and nephews; and her lovely caretakers at The Patriot. She was a maid at the former White Star Hotel, Jennerstown. She also worked at several other local hotels and restaurants. She enjoyed reading romance novels, singing, doing embroidery and baking homemade pies. She attended Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle. Clara was a loving and caring person who loved life and being with her family. She had a very contagious laugh and everyone enjoyed being around her. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Ann Smith and Medi-Hospice of Johnstown. Viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville, with pastor Gary W. Anderson presiding.
