The Rev. James E. Cuppett

BEDFORD — CUPPETT – The Rev. James E. Cuppett, 68, Cedar Lane, Bedford, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at the Altoona Hospital.  He was born Jan. 8, 1943, in Johnstown, son of the late George M. and Anna I. (Smith) Cuppett.  On Aug. 8, 1964, in Johnstown, he married Carol A. Lingenfelter, and she survives along with two sons, Chris Cuppett, married to the former Ann Mitchell, Salisbury, Md., and Brian Cuppett, married to the former Lisa Sautner, Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren, Max, Ellie, Jack, Andrew and Nicholas; and one sister, Lois, wife of James Siehl, Schellsburg. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Grubb, wife of Robert, New Jersey, and a brother, Richard Cuppett, husband of Sandra, Virginia.  The Rev. Cuppett had been a Presbyterian minister for 30 years, serving churches in Roscoe and Johnstown, and retiring in 1996 from Ebensburg Presbyterian Church.  He also was a Stephen Ministry trainer at First United Methodist Church, Ormond Beach, Fla. Throughout his career, as well as in his personal life, he was admired for his ready smile and quick wit. Jim was well known for patiently listening to all who needed an ear.  He was an inspiration to all. Memorial service will be held on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at 3 p.m. from First Presbyterian Church, Johnstown, the Rev. Doug Friant, the Rev. James R. Farrer and the Rev. Alice Tondora, officiating.  Burial will be at Cuppett Cemetery, New Paris. Friends will be received Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m. at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, Bedford.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bedford Presbyterian Church, 145 S. Juliana St., Bedford, Pa. 15522, or First Presbyterian Church 309 Lincoln St., Johnstown, Pa. 15901, or Ebensburg Presbyterian Church, 200 North Center St., Ebensburg, Pa. 15931.
