There’s one week remaining in the regular race seasons at Dog Hollow and Motordrome.
Last Friday’s races at Dog Hollow Speedway, designated the Frank Mayak Memorial, produced three new winners in the five divisions including Dick Barton of Ashville, N.Y., in the Fastrak late models special.
Other newcomers to Victory Lane were Rodney Phillips of Punxsutawney in the late models and Punxsutawney’s Nick Goss in the street stocks.
Repeat winners were Vinco’s Tim Laughard in the pure stocks and Joe Petyak of Gallitzin in the four-cylinder sidewinders.
There were 113 cars in the pits last week, including 29 late models, 23 Fastrak late models, 23 street stocks, 13 pure stocks and 25 four-cylinders.
In the points races, Shawn McGarvey (709 points) leads Rick Strong (680) in the late models while Dan Angelicchio holds a slim 14-point edge over Gary Stahl, 651-637, in the Fastrak battle.
Tyler Hite has 691 points with Jim Boyer at 668 and Denny Keener at 663 in the street stocks. The pure stock points race has John Mazey at 767 and Rich Powell at 741. In the four-cylinders, David Rocker is at 679 and Brennan McCracken at 616.
The final points race is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
n The points races at Motordrome have tightened up after last Friday’s races.
Neil Brown won his division-leading fifth feature in the super late models, while Harry Opfer stopped Adam Kostelnik’s win streak at 10 straight in the modifieds. Shawn Phillips continued toward the street stock title with another victory and Ed Neidhardt won his career-first feature event in the chargers. Paul Rosa found Victory Lane again in the American flyers.
Because he did not start the super late models feature, points leader Bobby Henry fell behind Richard Mitchell by two points, 919-917, while Garry Wiltrout is at 900.
In the modifieds, Kostelnik holds a commanding lead over Bobby Shipp, 1019-949, while Phillips, looking for his first track championship, is 11 points in front of Jonathan Hileman in the street stocks.
In the chargers, Mike Lemley (980 points) is 100 points in front of Tracy Keller (880) and Ed Dinneen (968) is 65 in front of Ron Eiford III (903) in the American flyers.
If the racing program is postponed due to weather on Friday, Motordrome will utilize a Saturday night rain date in order to settle its track championships.
n Benny Gordon, who won the Northern Division championship of the USAR Hooters ProCup Series, captured the first race in the four-race Championship Series.
The DuBois driver, who started fifth, took the lead on Lap 97 and went on to the victory in the Charlie Campbell Sears Auto Center 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Park in Mansfield, Ohio, for his fifth win of the season. Southern Division points champion Mark McFarland of Mooresvile, N.C., was second.
The Championship Series resumes on Sept. 20 at Iowa Speedway.
