Windber 60, Meyersdale 48
MEYERSDALE – Joe Pipon had 22 points and nine rebounds to pave the way for a Ramblers road victory.
Brett Lucas supplied 16 points for Windber.
Justin Donaldson’s 13 points led the Red Raiders, who received a dozen points from Ian Edwards.
Conemaugh Twp. 67, Salisbury-Elk Lick 55
SALISBURY – Dillon Boyer led the Indians with 21 points as they topped the host Elks.
Grant Speigle (16 points) and Dan Zambanini (12 points) each had nine rebounds as Conemaugh Township held a 35-22 edge on the glass.
Brandon Miller scored a game-high 31 points for Salisbury-Elk Lick, which also received 11 points from Ryan Vogt. Alex Beiler added eight assists.
Shanksville 56, Ferndale 28
SHANKSVILLE – A 15-point night from Jake Duppstadt topped all Vikings scorers in a victory over Ferndale.
Shanksville limited the Yellow Jackets to nine points or fewer in each quarter.
Nate Davidson scored 15 points to lead Ferndale.
High School Girls
Johnstown 58, Bedford 44
BEDFORD – Four Johnstown players scored in double figures led by Tynesha Smith with 20 as the Trojans earned a road win against Bedford.
Amber Mangus added 13 points, Brandi Young supplied 11 and Chartice Wyatt had 10 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Smith also grabbed 10 boards.
Summer Hartung topped the Bisons with 13 points while Lauren Fedorchak chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Bisons committed a season-low eight turnovers.
Somerset 50, Bishop McCort 40
The Golden Eagles opened with a 13-0 first-quarter run and closed with a 23-7 edge in fourth-quarter scoring to down the host Crimson Crushers.
Brooke Spangler’s 15 points led Somerset while Sydney Geary scored 13 and Bits Barron added 11.
Jill Kegg’s 14 points paced Bishop McCort, which received 10 points from Leah Bridges.
Ligonier Valley 50, United 31
LIGONIER – The Rams’ Courtney Bridge scored 17 points and connected on five 3-pointers – all in the first half – as Ligonier Valley stymied United.
Maddy Grimm added 10 points in the victory.
Julie Snyder’s 15 points led the Lions.
Westmont 39, Richland 31
Alyssa Yewcic scored 12 points and snagged nine rebounds as the Hilltoppers outslugged visiting Richland.
Katie Gehlmann’s 11 points led the Rams.
College Men
Mount Aloysius 73, Grove City 69
CRESSON – The Mount Aloysius men’s basketball team earned a victory over defending President Conference Champions, Grove City.
Sophomore Demetrius Davis led the Mounties with a game-high 28 points, including 5-8 from three-point range. Joey Stephenson added 15 points.
Luke Tomaselli topped Grove City with 20 points.
Grove City had 25 turnovers in the contest, 17 in the first half.
Mount Aloysius will host Medaille College on Saturday.
College Women
Pitt-Johnstown 77, Fairmont State 66
Sheena Aden poured in a game-high 24 points to help the Pitt-Johnstown women use a pair of big runs to build an 18-point lead and cruise to a victory over Fairmont State in the Sports Center.
UPJ improved to 10-8 overall and 8-6 in the WVIAC.
Fairmont State opened a 9-2 lead 5:18 into the game on Tiffany Nicholson’s layup before Andrea Dalton’s basket cut it to 12-8.
The Lady Falcons scored six of the next eight points to build their largest lead of the first half at 18-10 2 minutes later.
But, UPJ used a 28-12 sprint to close out the first half and take an eight-point advantage into halftime.
Back-to-back buckets by Dalton made it a one-point game, and Grace Hyland followed with a 3-pointer to give the Lady Cats their first lead – 21-19 – at the 5:43 mark.
The Lady Cats pushed it out to five on Sara Trimarco’s jumper with 3:47 left.

There were times earlier in his career when James McDonald would run into trouble and innings would slow to a crawl. Even worse, runners would disappear, and not in a good way.

AAABA League will open after busy offseason
The AAABA League opens on Tuesday at Point Stadium with two new, but familiar managers, a new but familiar sponsor, an expanded interleague schedule and two new franchises committed to the 2013 season.
A lot of activity took place during the offseason, including the AAABA national committee’s vote to expand the age limit to 21 years old beginning in 2013. -

Richland's Lumley settles for pair of silver medals
Paige Lumley was on an emotional roller coaster and seeing silver on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
The Richland senior had state record jumps twice during the triple jump competition, but ended up with a silver–medal leap of 40 feet,
1¾ inches.
Defending state champion, second-seeded junior Lanae Newsome of Brookville, won with a jump of 40-3½. -
Ridge’s Dull takes second with school-record time
Matt Dull finished his athletic career with his best on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
The Chestnut Ridge senior ran a career-best time of 38.12 to finish second in the 300 hurdles final, also setting another school record. -
Hit batsman lifts Pirates over Cubs
Matt Hague was hit by a pitch from Rafael Dolis with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Pittsburgh Pirates sent the Chicago Cubs to their 11th straight loss with a 3-2 victory Saturday night.
Hague took a 96 mph fastball from Dolis (2-4) in the back near the shoulder blade, scoring Jose Tabata and eliciting an incredulous look to the sky by the Cubs reliever. -
Generals return to defeat Sting
It’s been a dramatic month for the Johnstown Generals.
