If you flipped on SportsCenter or watched some NFL highlights on Monday, chances are that you saw a familiar face.
Arizona’s LaRod Stephens-Howling made one of the most memorable plays of the 2011 season on Sunday, catching an outside screen pass from quarterback Kevin Kolb and zig-zagging his way through the Dallas Cowboys’ defense for a 52-yard touchdown in overtime to give the Cardinals a dramatic 19-13 victory at University of Phoenix Stadium.
“Oh man, it was awesome, just awesome,” Stephens-Howling said of scoring the game-winning touchdown. “It felt real good to have my number called.
“Once I got the ball and got some blocks, I knew I could make it to the end zone.”
That’s precisely what Stephens-Howling – a Greater Johnstown graduate – did. He shed several would-be tacklers and pinballed his way to paydirt. It was a dramatic end to the game, which featured some poor clock management by Dallas head coach Jason Garrett.
According to Stephens-Howling, the touchdown was one of the most memorable plays of his young career.
“It’s definitely up there. To score the game-winning touchdown in overtime ... it was just such a great feeling. On that stage, against the Dallas Cowboys, yeah, that’s definitely one of my best moments,” Stephens-Howling said.
He almost didn’t make it to the end zone. Toward the end of his dramatic run, he was nearly knocked over by starting left guard Daryn Colledge. Around the 5-yard line, Colledge hit Stephens-Howling in the back. To his credit, he was able to keep his balance and score the walk-off touchdown.
