JOHNSTOWN — Tennis

Geary, Brock win District 5 doubles title

ALTOONA - Somerset’s Sydney Geary and Hope Brock won the District 5 Class AA doubles title on Monday at the Summit Tennis and Racquet Club.

Geary and Brock downed Bedford’s Ericka Klavuhn and Amber Lafferty 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 to win the crown.

The Golden Eagles duo defeated Kelsey Foor and Kennedy Haines of Shanksville 10-4 in the quarters then downed Cate McClain and Dani Walsh of Windber 10-6 to advance to the championship.

Klavuhn and Lafferty beat Somerset’s Bailey Stinebiser and Jenna Abramowich in the quarterfinals before besting Taylor Frazier and Jen Carthew of Chestnut Ridge 10-7 in the semifinals.

Geary and Brock will advance to the state championship at the Hershey Racquet Club on Nov. 2.

Volleyball

Carroll falls at Guilfoyle

ALTOONA - In a battle of state-ranked Class A teams from the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference, Bishop Guilfoyle defeated Bishop Carroll on Monday in straight sets.

The Marauders, who were No. 5, downed the fourth-ranked Huskies 30-28, 25-10, 25-22. Bishop Carroll defeated Bishop Guilfoyle in the first meeting of the season.
