JOHNSTOWN —
After Tommy John surgery in 2011, Westmont Hilltop’s Ben Legath might have just given up his dreams of continuing to play college baseball.
But instead, the pitcher/infielder for Delweld in the AAABA League persevered through the rehabilitation process and now will take his skills to the College of Central Florida.
“I picked Central Florida for numerous reasons,” Legath said. “It has Class A facilities, coaches, academics and the weather. It will certainly be a different scene playing baseball during school when there is no snow and it is warm for a change.”
Legath says he is privileged to be able to have great people in his life that continue to push him.
“One quote that I have always followed and preached to myself is ‘Why settle for being good at something when you can push yourself to become exceptional,’ ” Legath said.
Playing in big games and tournaments set the tone for Legath, including the Pony World Series, WWBA National Tournament in East Cobb, Ga., and the AAABA.
“I am very fortunate to play for Delweld,” Legath said.
“Words can’t explain what it is like playing in front of your whole town on opening night of the AAABA Tournament.”
A three-time Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference all-star, Legath was listed as a Rawlings Pre-Season All-American.
