Pitt-Johnstown attended the 80th annual Rose Bowl of Wrestling on Friday at Wilkes College, coming away with a pair of champions.
“Our guys placed in all but one weight class,” Mountain Cats coach Pat Pecora said. “They wrestled well in a very tough tournament that included 11 Division I teams as well as numerous Division II and III wrestlers.”
At 174, Gary Lantz went 5-0 at the tournament and major decisioned Tyler Rill of Bloomsburg, 10-2 in the finals to win the title.
The other Mountain Cats’ champion was Travis McKillop at 184. McKillop pinned Francesco Merante of Nassau Community College in 2:56 to win his crown.
In addition to the two champions, Dave Fogle (133) and Nikos Garafola (197) were both third while Dave Cawley (141) and Keith Ryan (165) were fourth. Heavyweight Josh Duplin was fifth.
Evan Link (125) and Jack Bachman (149) were injured in the semifinals and defaulted down to sixth.
The Mountain Cats return to action next Saturday at Millersville University.
