Boys

Northern Cambria 57

Marion Center 44

NORTHERN CAMBRIA – The Colts received 20 points from Josh Bonatesta while taking in 17 from Adam Polites and 10 more from Jeff Hogan in a win over Marion Center. Hogan had nine rebounds while Bonatesta issued six assists.

The Stingers’ Nick LaMantia scored 13 points while Garrett Glasser pitched in 11 points and Todd Fetsko 10.



Forest Hills 51

Portage 35

PORTAGE – Justin Smith scored 11 points and Eric Daniels had 10 as Forest Hills beat host Portage.

The Rangers led by 11 at halftime, but Portage cut it to six in the fourth quarter. Troy Scoran had a game-high 15 points, and Jesse Kreutzberger had 10 for the Mustangs.



Cambria County Christian 52 Bedford CIA 10

MUNDYS CORNER – D.J. Kim scored 10 points as Cambria County Christian defeated visiting Bedford CIA.



Girls

Cambria County Christian 31 Bedford CIA 14

MUNDYS CORNER – Alexis Wolfe scored 12 points and Natalie Sokira had 10 points as Cambria County Christian beat visiting Bedford CIA.

Cambria County Christian won despite being held without a point in the opening quarter.



Bishop McCort 68

Cambria Heights 54

Jill Kegg scored 24 points, including 14 free throws made, as host Bishop McCort defeated Cambria Heights.

Larissa Swank had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Crushers, and Leah Bridges had 11 points. The Crushers made 32 of 36 free throw attempts.

Amanda Short netted 14 points, Serafina Bills had 12, and Lindsey Kosicki had 10 for Heights, which went 11 of 18 on the free-throw line.



Blacklick Valley 46

Ferndale 31

Allison Verba led a triumvirate of Vikings scorers in double figures with 15 points as Blacklick Valley tallied a road win. Breanna Rege’s 11 points and Brooke Rhoades’ 10 points helped the guests hold down the Yellow Jackets.

Ferndale’s top scoring output was Elizabeth Chobany’s 11 points.

 

Central Cambria 62 Johnstown 24

Katie Bracken had 21 points, and Gracie Wright had 12 as visiting Central Cambria defeated Johnstown in the LHAC.

Johnstown’s Janay Myers scored a team-best 17 points, hauled in 17 rebounds and blocked four shots.

 

Shade 53

Johnstown Christian 39

HOLLSOPPLE – Becca Muha ripped the nets for 34 points as Shade captured a non-conference road win over Johnstown Christian. Muha also led the way on the glass with 22 rebounds while Lexi Meek pulled down 15 of her own.

Kayla Conahan’s 15 points led the Blue Jays while teammate Lindsey Najjar added 11 points.



Forest Hills 62

Richland 48

The Rangers’ Becky Bard posted 23 points as her squad remained unbeaten by topping rival Richland. Jess DiFlauro scored a dozen points while Forest Hills teammate Marlee Zubek pitched in 11.

The Rams’ Sarah Pfeil scored 22 points and pulled down six rebounds while Katie Gehlmann scored 10 points.



Berlin Brothersvalley 63    Salisbury-Elk Lick 23

BERLIN – The visiting Mountaineers posted 29 points in the first quarter and led 52-10 at the half on their way to a comfortable win over the Elks.

Lauren Short scored 19 points in the win while teammate Shelby Coughenour added another 12.

Alayna Harshberger’s 14 points led Salisbury-Elk Lick.



Penn Cambria 65

Somerset 22

SOMERSET – Brianna Kearney and Brianna Mulhern each scored 16 points as the Panthers downed host Somerset.

Penn Cambria opened with a 20-3 run and never looked back in the Laurel Highlands win.



Westmont Hilltop 74

Bishop Carroll 41

Erin Rodgers scored 22 points, and Gina Rievel added 20 as Westmont Hilltop beat visiting Bishop Carroll.

Brittany Davis netted 14 points, and Paige Lamberson had 11 for Hilltop. Rievel added five steals and three assists. Rodgers had seven steals, four assists and five rebounds. Rachel Roper had eight rebounds.

Westmont shot 17 of 33 from the field in the opening half.

Carroll was led by Dani Link’s 12 points and Krista Krug’s 11 tallies.



Windber 60

Portage 52

WINDBER – Jill Penatzer scored 16 points and added 14 rebounds to lead Windber past Portage.

Penatzer was the lone Rambler to reach double figures in the victory. Windber led at the half, 32-29, and pulled away in the fourth quarter for the win. The Ramblers improved to 5-3.

Visiting Portage was led by Emily Chobany, who scored a game-high 18 points. Olivia McCabe added 15 points and 17 rebounds in the loss.

The Mustangs fell to 6-2.

    The AAABA League opens on Tuesday at Point Stadium with two new, but familiar managers, a new but familiar sponsor, an expanded interleague schedule and two new franchises committed to the 2013 season.
    A lot of activity took place during the offseason, including the AAABA national committee’s vote to expand the age limit to 21 years old beginning in 2013.

    Paige Lumley was on an emotional roller coaster and seeing silver on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
    The Richland senior had state record jumps  twice during the triple jump competition, but ended up with a silver–medal leap of 40 feet,
    1¾ inches.
    Defending state champion, second-seeded  junior Lanae Newsome of Brookville, won with a jump of 40-3½.

    Matt Dull finished his athletic career with his best on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
    The Chestnut Ridge senior ran a career-best time of 38.12 to finish second in the 300 hurdles final, also setting another school record.

    Matt Hague was hit by a pitch from Rafael Dolis with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Pittsburgh Pirates sent the Chicago Cubs to their 11th straight loss with a 3-2 victory Saturday night.
    Hague took a 96 mph fastball from Dolis (2-4) in the back near the shoulder blade, scoring Jose Tabata and eliciting an incredulous look to the sky by the Cubs reliever.
