JOHNSTOWN —
At the year’s outset, Johnstown’s Andres Taylor predicted that he’d end 2010 with
19 career victories.
The cruiserweight boxer is right on pace after battering Adam Harris by a second-round TKO at Sovereign Bank Baseball Stadium in York on Saturday night.
Taylor is 16-1-1 after five convincing wins so far this year.
“The first round started off a little slow. I worked the jab a little bit and felt him out,” Taylor said in a telephone interview after his co-main event.
“I pushed him back with the jab. He couldn’t handle that power. He tried to move a bit and switch up. I caught him with a body shot that put him down. After that I could see it in his eyes. I caught him with an overhand right at the end of the second round.”
Harris stayed in his corner and slipped to 10-4.
The bout had been considered important to Taylor for another reason.
Harris had fought Wayne Braithwaite and lost by TKO on March 6.
Braithwaite, known as “Big Truck,” is 24-4-0 with 20 knockouts. He’s been mentioned as a possible opponent for Taylor in the cruiserweight division.
“I’m right in the ballpark after this,” Taylor said.
“Braithwaite stopped him (Harris) in the first. I stopped him in the second. This guy didn’t want to come back out again. He said I hit him with a body shot that he felt all the way up his spine.”
Taylor hopes to finish the year with at least three more fights.
“They’re talking about having some stuff in the fall,” he said.
“I’m going to be looking for fights whether it’s with my promoter or not. My goal is to be 19-1 by the end of the year. I’m pushing for it.”
