Girls

Bishop McCort 63

Bedford 23

Crimson Crushers coach John Hahn picked up his 200th career win as Bishop McCort head coach as his squad drubbed visiting Bedford on Monday night.

For Hahn, the milestone win was a celebration of sorts for himself, his family and the athletes that he’s mentored.

“It’s unbelievable,” Hahn said. “I didn’t know this was happening, my wife (Carole) and two of my children (Lauren and Mark) were here. ... Everything comes back, all of the girls I’ve coached and what they’re doing now and being successful outside of basketball. That just means the world to me. I’m just flabbergasted to be at 200 wins. It’s the tradition at McCort and I’m just proud to be a part of that.”

Jill Kegg led Bishop McCort with 22 points while Leah Bridges pitched in 11 points.  

Maggi Secrest’s 13 points paced the Bisons.

    

Forest Hills 61

Penn Cambria 34

CRESSON - Forest Hills (10-1) bounced back from its first loss of the season as Becky Bard torched host Penn Cambria for 21 points in a Laurel Highlands Section 1 battle.

Brianna Kearney topped the Panthers with nine points.

The Rangers led just 14-11 after the first quarter, but outscored Penn Cambria 18-2 in the second quarter to pull away.



Berlin 46

Southern Fulton 42

BERLIN - Berlin Brothersvalley handed visiting Southern Fulton its first loss in a non-conference fray.

“It was a good test for us,” Berlin coach Rachel Prosser said. “It was a big win.”

The Mountaineers (9-2) got nine points each from Lauren Short and Erica Craig.

Macey Hollenshead topped the Indians (11-1) with 16 points while Courtney Strait added 12 points and Taelor Morten supplied 10.

Berlin trailed by a point after the first quarter, but outscored Southern Fulton 17-12 in the second to pull away for the margin of victory.



Westmont Hilltop 66

Somerset 20

Westmont Hilltop tore out to a 31-2 lead after a quarter in a Laurel Highlands Section II game and rolled to a big win over Somerset.

Three Hilltoppers scored in double figures led by Erin Rodgers with 15 points. Gina Rievel added 12 points and Brittany Davis supplied 11. Rievel also had three steals and three assists while Rodgers contributed six rebounds and four assists.

Katie Acker topped the Golden Eagles with 11 points.





Central Cambria 45

Cambria Heights 40 (OT)

EBENSBURG – Taylor King-Brothers scored 13 points as the Red Devils outlasted Cambria Heights in a Laurel Highlands clash. Katie Bracken scored 12 points and Katie Ley poured in 11 to supplement the Red Devils attack.

Carrie Weaver’s 12 points boosted the Highlanders, who received 10 points from Kara Cordell.



Conemaugh Valley 65 Turkeyfoot Valley 29

Jen Percinsky’s 15 points helped pave the way for host Conemaugh Valley as it drubbed Turkeyfoot Valley. Jamie Cekada and Emily McCray each scored 10 points in the win while teammate Carly Gruss grabbed eight boards.

The Rams’ Katie Ryan scored 11 points.



North Star 37

Meyersdale 31

BOSWELL – Amanda Lohr’s nine points led the Cougars as they defeated visiting Meyersdale. Bradie Rhoades pulled down eight rebounds in the win.

Kyley Dunmeyer paced the Red Raiders with nine points.



Richland 62

Greater Johnstown 21

Sarah Pfeil totaled 21 points and grabbed six boards as the Rams defeated Greater Johnstown. Katie Gehlmann added 16 points and grabbed six boards of her own in the win.



Rockwood 48

Johnstown Christian 31

HOLLSOPPLE – The Rockets overcame a sluggish start to outscore Johnstown Christian 34-21 in the middle periods to take home a non-conference win.

Sara Romesberg and Sam Emert each scored 17 points in the win while teammate Kelsey Zerfoss pitched in a dozen points.  

Kayla Conahan and Lindsey Najjar each scored nine points to lead the Blue Jays, who led 4-2 after a quarter.



Boys

Conemaugh Township 58 Shanksville-Stonycreek 47

DAVIDSVILLE - Conemaugh Township rolled out to a 34-15 halftime lead then held on for a non-section WestPAC win over visiting Shanksville-Stonycreek.

“We knew they would make a run at us and got as close as nine in the second half,” Township coach Chuck Lesko said. “We held on at the end.”

Dillon Boyer scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Indians (9-3), who also got 13 points and seven steals from Grant Speigle.

The Vikings (8-3) were led by 16 points from Jake Duppstadt along with 13 points and eight boards by Carter Slade.



Philipsburg-Osceola 57

Forest Hills 53

SIDMAN – Despite jumping out to an early six-point lead, Forest Hills fell to visiting Philipsburg-Osceola.

Cole Curtis poured in 28 points as the Mounties improved to 3-10. Eric Nartatez also hit double figures for Philipsburg-Osceola, scoring 13.

Jared Shope led the Rangers with 13 points while Justin Smith added 11 in the loss. Forest Hills is now 5-8.



Bishop Carroll 58

Central 56

EBENSBURG – Bishop Carroll scored 22 third-quarter points en route to a two-point win over Central.

Marcus Lee paced the Huskies with 21 points while Scott Ranck added 16 in the win. The Huskies are now 7-4.

Central was led by Matt Ritchey, who scored 24 points. Brandon Myers added 14. The Scarlet Dragons are now 8-6.



Shade 71

Blacklick Valley 52

NANTY GLO – Ryan Fyock’s 25 points led a three-pronged Panthers scoring attack in a WestPAC win. Wade Walker netted 21 points and Nash Walker scored 11 points in the win.

Johnny Sheesley’s 20 points topped the Vikings, who received a dozen points from Dalton Cesarz.



Berlin Brothersvalley 70

Ferndale 39

Drew Glotfelty scored a game-high 26 points as visiting Berlin Brothersvalley pelted Ferndale in a non-section WestPAC game.

Ryan Lynch added 13 points for the Mountaineers (7-5), who also got 10 points from Kyle Cooney.

Chad Eisenhuth topped the Yellow Jackets with 21 points and seven assists.



Windber 60

Everett 47

WINDBER – Dan Tomlinson connected on seven 3-pointers to highlight his 27-point night as Windber downed Everett.

Tomlinson also picked up six steals for the Ramblers, who received 13 points from Andy Mock.



Conemaugh Valley 81

Turkeyfoot Valley 25

The Blue Jays saw four scorers reach double digits as they carved up visiting Turleyfoot Valley. Dalton Uncapher led the charge with 19 points while Blake Furman scored 13. Hunter Furman and Chris Horten each had 10 points in the win.

Dalton Conn’s 13 points topped the Rams.

LORETTO – The St. Francis women’s basketball team dug itself a 41-29 first-half hole and could not make up the ground in an 85-56 loss to Sacred Heart at DeGol Arena on Monday night.

After opening up a 12-point lead in the first half, Sacred Heart poured it on in the second half.

The Red Flash were led by Alexandra Williams, who scored 15 points in the loss.

 Gabrielle Washington had 18 points for the Pioneers.

    Paige Lumley was on an emotional roller coaster and seeing silver on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
    The Richland senior had state record jumps  twice during the triple jump competition, but ended up with a silver–medal leap of 40 feet,
    1¾ inches.
    Defending state champion, second-seeded  junior Lanae Newsome of Brookville, won with a jump of 40-3½.

    Matt Dull finished his athletic career with his best on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
    The Chestnut Ridge senior ran a career-best time of 38.12 to finish second in the 300 hurdles final, also setting another school record.

    Matt Hague was hit by a pitch from Rafael Dolis with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Pittsburgh Pirates sent the Chicago Cubs to their 11th straight loss with a 3-2 victory Saturday night.
    Hague took a 96 mph fastball from Dolis (2-4) in the back near the shoulder blade, scoring Jose Tabata and eliciting an incredulous look to the sky by the Cubs reliever.
