Johnstown’s Antwuan Reed elevated his game throughout his senior season on the Pitt football team.
The former Trojan was rewarded with All-Big East honors on Thursday. The second-year starting cornerback earned second team status.
In 12 games, Reed had 29 tackles and a team-best seven pass break-ups. He recovered two fumbles and returned one against Syracuse 20 yards for a touchdown that sealed the win and made Pitt bowl eligible. Reed also recovered a blocked punt and returned it 10 yards for a touchdown against Utah.
Reed’s progress has been evident during his four seasons with the Panthers. He started 12 games this season and all 12 regular-season games as a junior.

This season opposing quarterbacks tended to avoid Reed and his coverage. That wasn’t the case early in his career as Reed encountered typical growing pains while playing in the final nine games of his freshman season in 2008 and appearing in 13 games as a reserve cornerback as a sophomore.
New Pitt coach Todd Graham made Reed one of his seven team captains at the season’s outset.
Reed was joined by five teammates on the All-Big East squad. Junior running back Ray Graham and junior safety Jarred Holley each were first-team selections. Senior defensive tackle Chas Alecxih, sophomore defensive tackle Aaron Donald and senior linebacker Max Gruder were second-team picks.
At Johnstown High, Reed was a first-team All-State selection in 2007. He had 4,276 career rushing yards at Johnstown and was among the area’s top defensive backs.
The Panthers (6-6, 4-3 Big East) will play Southern Methodist University (7-5, 5-3 Conference USA) in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Jan. 7.
