NEW PARIS – Ryan Fyock scored 32 points, and Wade Walker added 14 as Shade defeated Ligonier Valley in the opener of the Chestnut Ridge Tournament. Anthony Tutino led Ligonier with 14 points.

Forest Hills 47
NEW PARIS – Beau Bosch and Brad Hengst each netted 15 points as host Chestnut Ridge beat Forest Hills in the second contest of the Lions’ tournament. Neil Wysocki had 13 points for the Rangers.

Westmont Hilltop 61
Derry Area 46
HOMER CITY – The Hilltoppers’ Quentin Brandon scored a game-high 30 points, pulled down nine rebounds and had five steals as Westmont downed Derry Area. Joe Glennon added 10 points and seven assists in the win.
The Trojans’ Zach Wisneski had 14 points as teammate Jeremy Hauser scored a dozen.
Kittanning Tournament
Cambria Heights 62 Riverview 54
KITTANNING – Isaac Vescovi scored 30 points, and Nathan Bearer had 19 points as Cambria Heights opened with a win over Riverview in the Kittanning Tournament.
Vescovi made eight of Heights’ 12 3-point field goals. Riverview’s Corey Bickert had a game-high 32 points.
Pine Grill Roundball Classic
Tussey Mountain 57 Northern Cambria 50
SOMERSET – Adam Polites scored 13 points and had six assists, and Jeff Hogan tallied 13 points but Northern Cambria fell to Tussey Mountain in the Pine Grill Roundball Classic.
Nick Lee scored 13 points for the Colts, and Josh Bonatesta grabbed six rebounds. Eric Husick led Tussey with 18 points, and Luke Zelmko had 15.

Windber 27
SOMERSET – Brent Barron scored 16 points, and Eddie Buck had 14 as Somerset defeated Windber in the Pine Grill Roundball Classic.
Justin Harshbarger and Jake Close each netted 10 points for the Golden Eagles. Joe Pipon led Windber with eight points.

Richland 40
BERLIN – Kyle Cooney scored 20 points and Drew Glotfelty added 19 points as host Berlin defeated Richland.
The Mountaineers used a 21-10 second quarter advantage to build a 34-16 halftime lead.
Richland’s Matt Shaffer tallied 14 points and Kyle Flick had 13 points.
Southern Fulton 45 Shanksville 38
SHANKSVILLE – Noah Smart scored 14 points, and Seth Hall had 13 points as Southern Fulton beat host Shanksville.
Shanksville’s Carter Slade had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Jake Duppstadt had 11 points.

North Star 59 OT
SIDMAN – The Warriors caught up with North Star in the fourth quarter and edged the Cougars in overtime to advance to tonight’s championship.
Bailey Morral led Everett with 25 points while teammates Alexa Phipps and Logan Braillier scored 13 and 12 points respectively.
The Cougars’ Bradie Rhoades tallied 25 points and collected 18 boards while Amanda Lohr scored 19.

Northern Cambria 15
SIDMAN – Casey Gallaher’s 20 points led the way for the host Rangers as they topped Northern Cambria. Becky Bard tallied a double-double with 12 points and 11 steals while Marlee Zubek scored 14 points.
Homer-Center Tournament
Cambria Heights 40 Meyersdale 36
HOMER CITY – Lindsey Kosicky’s 18 points and 15 rebounds led the Highlanders to a narrow win over Meyersdale. The Red Raiders, who were led by Megan Gnagey’s 12 points, nearly overcame a nine-point deficit entering the fourth by outscoring Cambria Heights 9-2 in the frame.
Marion Center Tournament
Westmont Hilltop 58
Central 41
MARION CENTER – Erin Rodgers scored 18 points and made seven steals as Westmont Hilltop defeated Central in the first round of the Marion Center Tournament.
Gina Rievel had 13 points, and Bridget Sheehan had 11 points for the Hilltoppers. Sarabeth Been led Central with 13 points.
Westmont will face Marion Center at 1 p.m. today in the championship game of the tournament.
Art Burkett Tournament
Penn Cambria 72
Harmony 11
PORTAGE – Penn Cambria belted Harmony in the opener of the Art Burkett Tournament. The Lady Panthers raced out to a 22-2 first quarter lead and cruised from there. They held a 50-6 edge at the intermission.
Emily Roberts and Brianna Mulhern paced Penn Cambria (1-0) with 14 points apiece. Sarah Roberts added 13 points and Tori Shingler dumped in 12. Briana Kearney had 10 points for the winners.
The Lady Owls (0-1) failed to get a player into double digits.

Purchase Line 21
PORTAGE – Olivia McCabe had 20 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks to lead Portage past Purchase Line.
Teammate Emily Chobany added 17 points, six steals and four assists.
WAABA Tournament
Richland 60
Ligonier Valley 59
WINDBER – Sarah Pfeil scored 18 points, Katie Gehlmann had 15, and Kaija Holtzman added 13 as Richland edged Ligonier Valley in the WAABA Tournament.
The Rams tallied 32 points in the decisive fourth quarter to overcome a 42-28 deficit through three quarters. Holtzman had eight rebounds, Pfeil had seven boards, and Gehlmann had six.
Ligonier Valley’s Kyra Ludwig and Kristen Gabelt each scored 17 points for the Rams. Maddy Grimm netted 11 points.
Windber 51
Ferndale 29
WINDBER – Cheyenne Feathers scored a game-high 20 points and added five steals to lead Windber past Ferndale.
The Ramblers, who had 11 different players score, will face Richland in tonight’s title game.
Elizabeth Chobany scored 15 points for Ferndale, which will play Ligonier Valley in the consolation.

Centre County Christian 38
STATE COLLEGE – The Panthers’ Alexis Wolfe poured in 30 points, issued eight assists and registered seven steals in a win over Centre County Christian.
Natalie Sokira scored 24 points and had 16 rebounds in the win while Lauryn Maykovich added 10 points in the win.
Rachel Campbell scored 18 points for the Bulldogs while teammate Becky Maholic scored 14.
Greater Johnstown 47 United 32
Clare Svirsko scored 12 points to lead a balanced Johnstown scoring output in a season-opening victory over United at Doc Stofko Gymnasium.
Tashayla Smith grabbed 10 rebounds for the Trojans, who had five players scored seven or more points.
Julie Snyder led United with a game-best 23 points and 13 rebounds.

There were times earlier in his career when James McDonald would run into trouble and innings would slow to a crawl. Even worse, runners would disappear, and not in a good way.

AAABA League will open after busy offseason
The AAABA League opens on Tuesday at Point Stadium with two new, but familiar managers, a new but familiar sponsor, an expanded interleague schedule and two new franchises committed to the 2013 season.
A lot of activity took place during the offseason, including the AAABA national committee’s vote to expand the age limit to 21 years old beginning in 2013. -

Richland's Lumley settles for pair of silver medals
Paige Lumley was on an emotional roller coaster and seeing silver on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
The Richland senior had state record jumps twice during the triple jump competition, but ended up with a silver–medal leap of 40 feet,
1¾ inches.
Defending state champion, second-seeded junior Lanae Newsome of Brookville, won with a jump of 40-3½. -
Ridge’s Dull takes second with school-record time
Matt Dull finished his athletic career with his best on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
The Chestnut Ridge senior ran a career-best time of 38.12 to finish second in the 300 hurdles final, also setting another school record. -
Hit batsman lifts Pirates over Cubs
Matt Hague was hit by a pitch from Rafael Dolis with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Pittsburgh Pirates sent the Chicago Cubs to their 11th straight loss with a 3-2 victory Saturday night.
Hague took a 96 mph fastball from Dolis (2-4) in the back near the shoulder blade, scoring Jose Tabata and eliciting an incredulous look to the sky by the Cubs reliever. -
Generals return to defeat Sting
It’s been a dramatic month for the Johnstown Generals.
