JOHNSTOWN —
While Greater Johnstown High School graduate Antwuan Reed didn’t hear his name called during this weekend’s NFL Draft, it didn’t take long for the former University of Pittsburgh cornerback to receive good news.
Reed was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns on Saturday.
The Browns, 4-12 under coach Pat Shurmur a season ago, are looking at Reed to play cornerback.
“That’s a step in the right direction,” Reed said. “I have to keep working hard.”
Reed joins Arizona’s LaRod Stephens-Howling (Greater Johnstown) and Cincinnati’s Andrew Hawkins (Bishop McCort) on the increasing list of area players on NFL rosters.
“It’s good that Johnstown is starting to get back on the map,” Reed noted “For those guys and the guys before them leading the way. It’s great for the city.”
Reed also shared the advice that he received from the duo.
“They just told me that I did everything I could do and that it was in God’s hands now,” Reed said.

Locke grinds through as Pirates blank Astros
Jeff Locke didn’t have his best stuff Sunday. He didn’t need it to shut down the majors’ worst team.
Locke allowed three hits over seven innings, Pedro Alvarez homered and the Pittsburgh Pirates won for the eighth time in 10 games, 1-0 over the Houston.
Locke (4-1) won his fourth straight decision and gave up one run or fewer for the fifth time in his past eight outings. He struck out four and walked three. -
