High School Girls

Windber 54, Conemaugh Twp. 37

WINDBER – The Ramblers’ 41-14 halftime edge set the table for a victory over rival Conemaugh Township. Rachel Lovely scored 14 point and pulled down seven rebounds. Katie Tokarsky led the Ramblers with nine rebounds while Ondrea Null had 10 points.

Berlin 36, Cambria Heights 32

BERLIN – Shelby Coughenour scored 11 points as Berlin edged visiting Cambria Heights. The game was tied at 27 through three quarters. Berlin had a 9-5 scoring advantage in the final quarter.

Bishop Carroll 84, Central Cambria 78

EBENSBURG – Gabby Gueguen scored seven of her game-high 27 points in overtime to help the Huskies take down crosstown rival Central Cambria. Gueguen also dished out six assists to lead Bishop Carroll. Becky Hogue scored

13 points and grabbed

10 rebounds while Kayla Legros and Lauren Wyland each had 13 points.

Emily Wright’s 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter forced  overtime. She had 20 points, while Breanne James led the Red Devils with 22 and Taylor Swatsworth added 16.

Bishop Guilfoyle 67, Penn Cambria 31

ALTOONA – The Marauders took a 29-6 lead at halftime and got a game-high 24 points from Halee Adams.

Brianna Kearney’s 12 points led the Panthers.

Westmont 56, Bishop McCort 46

The Hilltoppers’ Alyssa Yewcic scored 20 points and had

11 rebounds in a win over host Bishop McCort. Gina Rievel aided the Westmont cause with 12 points.

Jill Kegg’s 11 points led the Crimson Crushers while teammate Larissa Swank pitched in 10 points.

Blacklick Valley 69, Harmony 26

NANTY GLO – Blacklick Valley’s Danielle Lesso had a team-high 15 points with Alison Verba (12 points), Jami Kish and Hailee Scott (10 each) also reaching doubles in a victory over Harmony. Harmony’s MaKenzie Kruise had a game-high 16 points.

North Star 53, Conemaugh Valley 38

Tabitha Smith’s 16 points led the visiting Cougars in a win over Conemaugh Valley. Bradie Rhoades scored 13 points and Bailley Caviness added 10 for North Star.

Darla Pollino’s 14 points led the Blue Jays.

Johnstown 50, Somerset 40

Chartice Wyatt had 17 points and 11 rebounds as Johnstown defeated visiting Somerset.

Tynesha Smith had 11 points and 15 rebounds for the hosts while teammates Brandi Young and Amber Mangus added 10 points each.

Bits Barron led Somerset with 17 points.

Portage 49, Ferndale 26

PORTAGE – Olivia McCabe had 15 points and seven rebounds to help guide the Mustangs past Ferndale. Emily Chobany dished out five assists in the victory.

The Yellow Jackets’ Elizabeth Chobany scored 11 points to lead the guests.

Shade 43, Rockwood 33

ROCKWOOD – Ashley Manges registered a double-double with 10 points and

11 rebounds as the Panthers won on the road. Shade’s Chelsey Pongrac led all scorers with 16 points and also had eight steals while teammate Becca Muha pulled down

10 rebounds.

Samantha Emert’s 14 points paced the Rockets.

Northern Cambria 34, Purchase Line 27

NORTHERN CAMBRIA - Cassie Brocious scored a game-high 12 points to lead Purchase Line.

    The AAABA League opens on Tuesday at Point Stadium with two new, but familiar managers, a new but familiar sponsor, an expanded interleague schedule and two new franchises committed to the 2013 season.
    A lot of activity took place during the offseason, including the AAABA national committee’s vote to expand the age limit to 21 years old beginning in 2013.

    Paige Lumley was on an emotional roller coaster and seeing silver on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
    The Richland senior had state record jumps  twice during the triple jump competition, but ended up with a silver–medal leap of 40 feet,
    1¾ inches.
    Defending state champion, second-seeded  junior Lanae Newsome of Brookville, won with a jump of 40-3½.

    Matt Dull finished his athletic career with his best on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
    The Chestnut Ridge senior ran a career-best time of 38.12 to finish second in the 300 hurdles final, also setting another school record.
