GLENDALE, Ariz. —
Football fans in the Johnstown area got the best of both worlds on Sunday afternoon.
Supporters of the Pittsburgh Steelers enjoyed a 32-20 road win over the Arizona Cardinals. It was the Steelers third consecutive win and keeps them in the thick of things in the AFC North.
Fans of Greater Johnstown and Pitt product LaRod Stephens-Howling watched as he scored on a 73-yard catch and run from Cardinals’ quarterback Kevin Kolb.
“I felt like I had to take it to the house,” the running back said on the Cardinals website.

The play was actually intended to go to wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. But Fitzgerald ended up with a linebacker helping out on his route, giving Stephens-Howling some room on the sideline. The Hyphen, as Arizona fans call Stephens-Howling, didn’t disappoint.
“I’m thankful for those receivers blocking downfield,” Stephens-Howling said.
The touchdown pulled the Cards within 17-14 with 9:26 left in the third quarter. However, their defense couldn’t get a stop and the Steelers took control of the game.
Still, the Stephens-Howling touchdown excited the Arizona bench – albeit for a short period of time.
“Once we scored, everyone on the defensive side was excited,” safety Rashad Johnson said. “It was on us, which is the way you want it to be. We didn’t do what we wanted to do.”
Stephens-Howling’s performance made Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin sit up and take notice.
“They had a broken play. They had a little checkdown to Stephens-Howling and boy, he’s a talented guy. He, of course, went the distance on us,” Tomlin said.
The Steelers (5-2) pushed their lead to 24-14 on the next possession.
“But (a) nice response from our offense, in terms of putting that fire out. That is what team is about. Hopefully that is a window into what we are capable of as a 53-man unit,” Tomlin said.
It was the first touchdown of the season for Stephens-Howling, who has four catches for 87 yards. He’s also carried the ball five times for 16 yards, though he didn’t have a carry on Sunday. His role could increase if starting running back Beanie Wells, who left with a right knee injury, is out for an extended period of time.
Stephens-Howling, who is in his third season with the Cardinals, has played mostly on special teams and as the team’s third-down back.
