JOHNSTOWN —
Greater Johnstown ran its record to a perfect 14-0 for the season on Sunday evening with a 10-2 win over Conemaugh Valley at the Cambria County War Memorial.
The game served a dual purpose as senior night for the Johnstown squad as well as a food drive hosted by the Trojans to benefit the West End Food Pantry.
The Trojans donated $300 in gate receipts from both the freshman and varsity games, and fans donated a wall of canned goods to the cause.
Johnstown seniors Craig Cassick, Dylan Hudson, Juuso Jormakka and Luke Kmett had a big night on offense, registering six points, but it was underclassman forward Devin Smith who stole the show with three goals and two assists to lead all scorers.
Johnstown’s speed and skill proved too much for a younger Conemaugh Valley (1-10) squad, as the Trojans peppered starting goaltender Robert Delusa with 40 shots through the opening two periods.
“It was a good effort,” Johnstown coach Sean McTighe said.
“We want to keep it going and not create bad habits when we get up a couple goals. Our guys did a good job at keeping things going north and south and being aggressive on the forecheck.”
Johnstown’s Cassick opened the scoring with a slapshot from the left wing that beat Delusa over the shoulder at 1:17.
