Local Basketball Briefs 02-01-2011

DAVIDSVILLE — Conemaugh Valley shot 10 of 12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to ice a WestPAC North Section road win at Conemaugh Township on Monday night.

The Blue Jays (10-5) were led by Hunter Furman and Brandon Kendera with

14 points apiece while Dalton Uncapher added 10 points.

Grant Speigle had 14 points and seven rebounds to top the Indians (10-5).

Bishop Carroll 52

Cambria Heights 43


PATTON – Dylan Link scored 14 points, Ryan Lauer had 12 and Marc Maruca, 11, to lead visiting Bishop Carroll to a win over Cambria Heights.

Bryce Brawley topped the Highlanders with 16 points.

Central Cambria 55

Penn Cambria 36


EBENSBURG – Zack Vigneault scored a game-high 21 points to lead Central Cambria past Penn Cambria.

Devin Lawhead led Penn Cambria with 12 points.

Blacklick Valley 69

Ferndale 57


All five Vikings starters reached double digits in scoring as Blacklick Valley downed host Ferndale.

Johnny Sheesley led Blacklick Valley with 18 points. Victor Manda followed with

16 points while Dalton Cesarz scored 15.

Mike Stefanick and Brandon Garver each had 10 for the guests.

Chad Eisenhuth poured in a game-high 22 points for the Yellow Jackets while also grabbing 11 rebounds. Nate Davidson had 14 points for the hosts.  

Forest Hills 53

Bishop Guilfoyle 27


SIDMAN – The Rangers limited Bishop Guilfoyle to nine points or fewer in each quarter and received a game-high 19 points from Luke Gallaher in a comfortable win.

Tanner Thomas added 16 points for Forest Hills while Beau Crockett’s 10 points led the Marauders.

Johnstown 80, Bedford 29

Ten Johnstown players got into the scoring column, including five in double figures, as the Trojans blasted visiting Bedford.

Alkwan Williams led the way with 18 points and tacked on 11 rebounds. Isaiah Haselrig contributed 16 points,

12 rebounds, three steals and three blocks.

Dwight Andrews added 12 points, Quentin Brandon had 11 points and six assists, and Phillip Madison supplied

10 points, five steals with four assists.

Marcus Shippey topped the Bisons with eight points.

Berlin 47

Salisbury-Elk Lick 31


SALISBURY – Dakota Glessner scored a game-high 16 points and Alex Will added 11 as Berlin Brothersvalley topped host Salisbury-Elk Lick in a South Section clash in the WestPAC.

Brandon Miller paced the Elks with nine points while Ryan Vogt had seven rebounds and Alex Beiler had five assists.

Cambria County Christian 46 Bedford CIA 21

MUNDYS CORNER– Tyler Berkebile scored 10 points to help host Cambria County Christian remain unbeaten with a win over Bedford CIA.

Caleb Shultz led all scorers with 14 points for the visitors, who were held to single-digit scoring in all four quarters.

MUNDYS CORNER – Natalie Sokara had 12 points and Alexis Wolfe added 10 to lead Cambria County Christian to the victory.

Bishop McCort 44


A trio of Homer-Center players scored in double figures led by Katelyn Skinner with 19 points, as the Wildcats defeated host Bishop McCort.

Lauren Valyo added 12 points for the Indiana County squad, which also got 11 points from Maggie McLaughlin.

Larissa Swank topped the Crimson Crushers with 15 points while Jillian Kegg added 13.

Blacklick Valley 61

Portage 50


NANTY GLO – Alison Verba scored 23 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as the Vikings got past Portage.

Jami Kish scored 10 points and registered eight rebounds and seven steals for Blacklick Valley.

Emily Chobany and Olivia McCabe each had 11 points for the Mustangs while Kelsie Spaid scored 10 points.

Penn Cambria 58

Johnstown Christian 26


HOLLSOPPLE – The Panthers bounded out to a 42-9 halftime lead en route to a nonconference win over Johnstown Christian. Breanna Kearney posted 11 points to lead Penn Cambria while Megan Wheeler added 10.

Kathy Guardarrama’s 10 points topped the Blue Jays.

Conemaugh Township 45 Shanksville 25

SHANKSVILLE – Lyndy Baer and Kayla Luprek each scored 10 points for the Indians as they topped host Shanksville-Stonycreek in a WestPAC clash.

Kayla Stockenus led the Vikings with 12 points.

Berlin 68

Salisbury-Elk Lick 19


SALISBURY – Shelby Coughenour scored a game-high 16 points to lead Berlin Brothersvalley to a WestPAC South road win over Salisbury-Elk Lick.

Kelsey Snyder added 10 points for the Mountaineers, who held the Elks to single-digit scoring in all four quarters.

Alayna Harshberger topped the hosts with 11 points.

    Paige Lumley was on an emotional roller coaster and seeing silver on Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
    The Richland senior had state record jumps  twice during the triple jump competition, but ended up with a silver–medal leap of 40 feet,
    1¾ inches.
    Defending state champion, second-seeded  junior Lanae Newsome of Brookville, won with a jump of 40-3½.
