JOHNSTOWN — Tomahawks release three, add goaltender

The Johnstown Tomahawks announced Thursday that they have released Matthew McLaughlin, Payton Ruter and Nate Morris.

The team also said it had acquired goaltender Colin Brennan from Janesville for a selection in next year’s draft.

Brennan played one game for the Jets this season. He played 12 games in 2011-2012 with the Jersey Hitmen of the EJHL and eight games the previous season with the Chicago Steel of the USHL.

The Tomahawks host the Jets at 7 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. on Sunday. Saturday’s game will feature the “Guns and Hoses” promotion honoring local fire, police and EMT departments to benefit Special Olympics.

Central Cambria's Swope advances to D6 final

Central Cambria’s Hannah Swope did nothing to disprove why she received the No. 1 seed for the District 6 AA singles tennis tournament.

Swope advanced to the final by defeating three opponents in straight sets Thursday at Leopold Rec Center at Altoona High School.

Swope plays Tyrone’s Anastasia Hollen in Saturday’s championship match at 11 a.m.

She defeated Tyrone’s Keturah Weaver (6-1, 6-0), in the first round; Bishop Guilfoyle’s Kathryn Nazaruk (6-0, 6-0) in the quarterfinals and Westmont Hilltop’s Hannah Gleason (6-2, 6-0) in the semifinals.
