5 things to know for today in Pennsylvania news

Your daily look at late-breaking news, upcoming events and stories that will be talked about in Pennsylvania on Tuesday:

1. ONE PITTSBURGH RIVER IMPROVING, ANOTHER DECLINING POSSIBLY DUE TO DRILLING POLLUTANTS

Duke University researchers say ultra-salty bromides are decreasing in the Monongahela River, after Marcellus Shale drillers stopped taking wastewater to municipal treatment plans along the river. But the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority say bromides are increasing in the Allegheny River, possibly from non-Marcellus drilling and industry.

2. FAMILY OF PHILADELPHIA POLICE OFFICER KILLED DURING OFF-DUTY ROBBERY WILL BE HOLDING A NEWS CONFERENCE TODAY

The family of Moses Walker Jr. isn’t saying what will be announced, but the family has been unhappy about how authorities handled prior arrests of the man charged with murdering Walker.

3. PITTSBURGH STEELERS WIN ONE, LOSE ONE ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

The 16-13 overtime victory against the Kansas City Chiefs puts the Steelers in position to play for first place in the AFC North next Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens. But they lost star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to a shoulder injury and it’s unclear if he’ll play against the Ravens.

4. AUTOGRAPHS FROM DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE SIGNERS RETURN TO CITY WHERE DOCUMENT ORIGINATED

The rare collection of signatures from all 56 men who signed the nation’s founding document will be displayed today at the site of the future Museum of the American Revolution. The signatures are expected to bring more than $1 million at a Dec. 15 auction.

5. JURY SELECTION SET TO BEGIN IN DEATH PENALTY TRIAL OF MAN CHARGED WITH MURDERING PITTSBURGH-AREA POLICE OFFICER

After the jury is picked starting today, testimony will begin Nov. 26 in the trial of 35-year-old Ronald Robinson. He’s charged with gunning down Penn Hills officer Michael Crawshaw shortly after killing another man over a $500 drug debt.
