HARRISBURG —
Democrat Kathleen Kane is airing her first TV ad in the general-election campaign for Pennsylvania attorney general and Republican nominee David Freed is preparing to follow suit.
Kane campaign spokesman Josh Morrow said Tuesday the ad began airing statewide on Monday – the same day the two candidates held their only debate.
In Kane’s 30-second spot, a narrator calls her “a prosecutor, not a politician” and says she’ll “clean up the corruption in Harrisburg.”
A spokesman says Freed’s campaign will put up an ad introducing him to voters this week and that he looks forward to a spirited final two weeks of the campaign.
Sandusky moved to state prison
CAMP HILL – Jerry Sandusky became a state prison inmate Tuesday with his transfer out of the Centre County jail, his home since he was convicted in June of child molestation.
The 68-year-old former Penn State assistant coach arrived early in the morning at the State Correctional Institute at Camp Hill, just outside Harrisburg, a state prison system spokeswoman said.
He faces testing and evaluation that will take a week or more before he can be assigned a security risk level and sent to one of the state facilities as his “home” prison.
Coal-cleaning plant open in Clearfield County
WEST DECATUR – A coal-cleaning plant has opened in Clearfield County and once it’s at full capacity, the owners say it will have about 20 employees.
For now, officials with RES Coal LLC told WJAC-TV that the plant in Boggs Township has a handful of workers. The plant is located along Route 153.
The plant will clean about 3,000 tons of raw coal each day using water drawn from Clearfield Creek.
Boy who killed dad’s fiancee faces court
NEW CASTLE – A 15-year-old boy who killed his father’s pregnant fiancee and her unborn child when he was just 11 is scheduled for his first juvenile court review next month.
Jordan Brown, of Wampum, was found delinquent, the juvenile court equivalent of a guilty verdict, in the February 2009 deaths of 26-year-old Kenzie Houk and her unborn son.
Houk was shot in the back of the head with Brown’s .20-gauge youth model shotgun in bed. At the time, she was engaged to Jordan Brown’s father, Christopher Brown, and 81⁄2 months pregnant with his son.
Judge OKs trial in dismembered teen death
WEST CHESTER – A judge says the murder trial will go forward for a man accused of killing a teen and dismembering him with a chain saw in a drug dispute.
Attorneys for 32-year-old Laquanta Chapman sought more time to prepare but a Chester County judge said Monday that it’s time for the trial to begin nearly four years after disappearance of 16-year-old Aaron Turner.
The Daily Local News of West Chester reported Judge William Mahon ordered jury selection to begin as scheduled today with opening statements likely Monday.
Cops: Man took wedding cards from reception
MARIENVILLE – State police say they plan to file charges against a rather unwelcome wedding guest.
Troopers from the Marienville barracks say the 31-year-old Titusville man stole wedding cards from a basket for guest gifts at the reception Saturday at the Harmony Township Community Center.
Police have yet to release the name of the man because he’s yet to be charged.
But police say they plan to charge the man with theft.
