1. LAWMAKER PROPOSING MAKEOVER OF PENN STATE BOARD OF TRUSTEES IN WAKE OF SANDUSKY SCANDAL
The bill sponsored by state Rep. Scott Conklin, a Centre County Democrat, would cut the size of the board from 32 to 22 members, and fully extend the state’s Right-to-Know law to the school.
2. JURY FINDS DRUNKEN OFF-DUTY COP RESPONSIBLE FOR FATAL SHOOTING, BUT LETS CITY OF PHILADELPHIA OFF THE HOOK
As a result, the $4.7 million verdict awarded Tuesday to the family of the victim, William Panas Jr., may never be paid. That’s because former Officer Frank Tepper, who shot Panas outside a baby shower in 2009, is serving life in prison. The victim’s family tried to hold the city responsible because Tepper had a long-record of alcohol-related discipline on the force.
3. NEW REPORT SAYS PENNSYLVANIA MUST REMAIN VIGILANT IN FIGHT TO END CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT
The annual report by The Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children’s annual report says the state is working to improve how it handles child abuse complaints, but shouldn’t overlook efforts to prevent abuse in the first place.
4. IT’S ALL TWELVES FOR WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA COUPLE
Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Johnson and Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Allen plan to get married today – 12-12-12 – at 12:12 p.m. before a federal judge in Pittsburgh. They’ll do so by exchanging vows of 12 words each.
5. SCHOOL BUS DRIVER’S TOY GUN NO LAUGHING MATTER
That’s why Susquehanna Township police have charged the suburban Harrisburg driver with disorderly conduct. A student says the driver joked that he carried the fake machine gun for the “bad kids.” The 73-year-old driver says he used poor judgment.
