Decorated Michigan firefighter charged in Pa. rape

BEAVER — A decorated professional firefighter from Michigan is jailed in that state on a warrant charging him with raping a woman in western Pennsylvania last month.

Beaver County District Attorney Anthony Berosh says 50-year-old Lee Finlayson of Rockford, Mich. will be extradited to Pennsylvania from Kent County, Mich. where he’s been jailed since his arrest Thursday night on the warrant filed by police in Brighton Township. That’s near Beaver, about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Finlayson who is accused of raping the woman in her Brighton home Sept. 22.

Finlayson is a lieutenant in the Grand Rapids Fire Department where he was recognized as its firefighter of the year last year.

Grand Rapids Deputy Fire Chief Gerard Salatka says the charges against Finlayson are a “private matter” involving Pennsylvania authorities.
