JURY TO CONTINUE DELIBERATIONS IN CAMPAIGN CORRUPTION TRIAL OF PENNSYLVANIA SUPREME COURT JUSTICE JOAN ORIE MELVIN, SISTER

The Allegheny County jury deliberated a little more than two hours after hearing closing arguments Friday. Now, after a three-day holiday weekend, they’re set to continue.

PHILLY POLICE STILL LOOKING FOR SUSPECTS WHO ACCOSTED CABBIE, STUFFED HIM INTO TRUNK

Police say the driver picked up the men on Valentine’s Day before one of them took off his belt and wrapped it around the driver’s neck while the other passenger robbed the driver. The driver remains in critical condition, with more than 100 staples closing wounds to his head.

ALLEGHENY COUNTY COUNCIL SET TO VOTE ON HALF BILLION DRILLING RIGHTS DEAL AT PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

County council’s public works committee approved the deal with Consol Energy Inc. last week. A vote by the full council is scheduled today.

MEANWHILE, MAJOR HEALTH SYSTEM GETS $1 MILLION GRANT TO STUDY POSISBLE HEALTH IMPACTS OF MARCELLUS SHALE GAS DRILLING

Geisinger Health System says the Degenstein Foundation had awarded the money to help underwrite what it called a “large-scale, scientifically rigorous assessment” of the drilling.

FORMER PROSECUTOR TO REVIEW PITTSBURGH POLICE PROCEDURES ON OFFICERS HIRED OUT FOR OFF-DUTY SECURITY DETAILS

Former Washington County District Attorney Steve Toprani’s hiring comes as the FBI has seized records from police headquarters involving the secondary employment program.
